Buck
This is my first post in what is a pretty impressive forum. I was a contributor with Corbis however, with their sale to Unity Glory International, (an affiliate of the Visual China Group (VCG)) and distribution going through Getty, an organisation I'm not overly keen to work with I'm now assessing my options. As such, I have decided it's time to move on and look for another outlet for my work, which is sport. I joined Alamy some time ago but haven't uploaded much, but I feel this is about to change. Up here in Scotland we have one dominant agency, but I did have some reasonable success with Corbis. My question is, do any of you submit editorial images from sports events (professional football, rugby etc.), and how good are Alamy at getting images published - in Scotland I don't think I've seen anything from Alamy published, but I don't know about the rest of the UK? Just curious, that's all. Thanks.
Matt Limb
Have you look at Alamy Live News Feed? http://www.alamy.com/contributor/how-to-sell-news-images/best-place-to-sell-live-news-images/
Malcolm Park
Buck, I shoot accredited sports and supply mainly via Alamy Live News. I have very reasonable and regular sales on my sports images (sent from the venue on the whole) but virtually all are once the images go onto the general collection - and many of these are to overseas clients. Problem with sports shots is there is one VERY dominant agency which has the market for live sports images virtually covered.

And many of the users, magazines for instance, will not think of looking at general libraries for their sports images, they will use people they know and can rely on to understand the sport (properly captioned and know how to present that sport, capture the important details a generalist might miss); in my full time sports days I was a specialist equestrian photographer although I did shoot other sports. Most sports have a few well known specialist agencies or photographers as well as the big sports libraries.
