dustydingo
Dropbox working perfectly!! Venice: looks very much like what the English call a Plane Tree (platanus). Melbourne: almost certainly one of the many types of Agave around. . . . I think . . . dd

Bizair
Looks like you both hit the nail on the head. Plane tree and Argave Attenuata appears correct. Many thanks
Ed Rooney
Ken, the tree in Venice is not a tree but a sculpture by Luigi Zambonne. And the bush-like thing is a rare Australian bush viper, not as venomous as the Fear Snake and not as aggressive as the Common Brown, but don't try to pet it. Glad I could be helpful. I'll investigate further. I fact there's so many statues around Italy that it would not surprise me at all . As to the snake though, it's a plant - but it would not surprise me if one of our snakes is not that far away. Quite a lot around where I live.
