How to determine a legitimate (purchased) use of my photo??

Hi,

Just for fun, I decided to do a Google search of one of my photos.

I found it on the Forbes.com website with no Alamy (or personal) attribution.  This article is date May 20, 2013.

I did find a sale on Alamy that sounded like it could be this, but the usage is for June 2013-July 2013 for a print usage in a North American magazine with online archiving of the article.  Is there a way to find out from Alamy whether this sale was to Forbes?  (If so, can't believe it's $50 for a print usage in such a big magazine, but that's another story).

 

Does Alamy require Alamy attribution for photos?  If it doesn't say Alamy, is it likely a theft??

 

Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

This forbes page is not found...

 

I had the same doubts about one of my image. Used in May 2013 on some website. Payed after my reaction email, this month, 9 months later after usage.

It's not motivating, when we have to watch our images, when and where they are in use without pay

 

I also had one refund lately because of wrong usage. Bought as print usage but used on a website. After email to Alamy they made refund with correct price.

 

Wondering, how many emails Alamy must respond because of not payed usage or wrong usage...

Email member services with details. They will confirm if it is a legit sale or not. I have asked them a few times and they are pretty good at responding one way or the other.

• Correct link to the Forbes article.
• The amount of $50 is not unusual (I've had less for a similar size magazine - online and print)
• I would imagine that, yes, it is a genuine sale (unlikely that Forbes would be lifting photos)
• Not unusual for usage to go unreported or for the dates to be askew.  Many possible reasons for this. Could just be an error, could be strategy, could be other things.
• As candyapplered-images says: E-mail member services and ask for some clarification.  They can be very helpful !
• "Does Alamy require Alamy attribution for photos".  They ask for attribution to you/Alamy, but it's not always given.
• "If it doesn't say Alamy, is it likely a theft??". No.  Could just as well be a theft if it does say Alamy!  But lack of the name on its own does not indicate theft.
