formerly snappyoncalifornia
I know this is true of watches and perhaps other luxury goods, but camera gear? I heard that as of Jan. 1st FOREIGN buyers in the UK will NOT be eligible get their VAT refunded at the airport, and that UK citizens will no longer be able to buy duty free at the airport. They can get duty free if the retailer ships the gear overseas, (but then it must be declared when you return). If true, plan accordingly.
spacecadet
Quite true, alas. The concession would have to have been extended to EU visitors as well and the government couldn't stomach that. Pure spite.
Robert M Estall
I know I am in the minority, but the whole duty free enterprise at airports and ferry ports could go to make way for more useful facilities. The value is often dubious and you might often do better at a high street shop with more knowledgeable staff. I go to airports to catch a plane not waste my time on a buying spree. In fact I seldom fly anymore, I've done more than my share in the past
