John Walker
My daughter in law is selling her budget set of 3 lens to go toward a single quality zoom for her Canon. One of the lens is the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III It doesn't have IS or the words Image Stabiliser on it anywhere. Every photo we can find on the internet inc Ebay all show what appears to be the same lens but with Image Stabiliser printed on it. We don't want to advertise on Ebay incorrectly. It's not going fetch a lot of money but all adds to the pot. So, my question is - does anyone know if Canon did produce a non - IS version of this lens and is there a foolproof way of being certain if it is or isn't an IS lens? Thanks
Davey Towers
John, there has been 8 models of this lens, 5 are discontinued, 3 are currently available. Your model (Non is ) is one of the three. Check this for more detail https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF-S_18%E2%80%9355mm_lens Regards, Davey

Thanks Most obvious way to check is to see if there is an IS button slider on the side which is shown on the top of this image beside the MF/AF slider. But if there's no IS on the front of the camera.... it's not.
TABan
The earliest two versions of the 18-55 lacked IS if I'm not mistaken. The later ones with IS are better optically, although the early ones weren't terrible.
John Walker
Thanks for your replies. Based on those comments, it's not an IS version so it can now be correctly described on Ebay. John
