Guest
Hi First post from a long time lurker. When I upload jpg files from negative/transparency scans I find that the uploading process takes much longer than native digital files - even when they are approximately the same compressed size. Is there any reason for this and can I do anything to remedy it? Thanks.
spacecadet
No, there isn't a reason. A file is a file and the only variable is size. Are you sure they're the same size? Scans are typically pretty huge.
Guest
Thanks. Yes the scans from film are generally larger, around 10mb when compressed.
Martin P Wilson
Thanks. Yes the scans from film are generally larger, around 10mb when compressed. That is because the jpeg compression algorithm sees a lot of fine detail (even in clear blue skies) from the film grain. WIth digital that sky would be an even tone so will compress more.
