Samsung NX Mini (NXF1) vs Sony RX100

Recommended Posts

Sensor is probably the same (quality) 20mpix 1", RX100 probably have better zoom lens, but NX Mini looks way more functional:

1. It has Interchangable lens and in addition to standard zoom it has pancake prime 24mm equivalent and fast prime 46mm equivalent

2. Full functional adapter for all standard NX APS-C sized lenses (great for tele if you find good balance point)

3. Much thinner and lighter than RX100, with 24mm prime it could fit everywhere  , not just in every pocket.

4. 22 fps

5. Shutter speed 1/16000

6. ISO 12800

7. 180 degrees tiltable touch screen

8. Full control of camera over wireless, good sharing functionality

9. Hot shoe (non-standard) for evf/flash

10. Battery is very promising 2230mah

11. Very good price 450$ (with pancake prime) which will drop probably to 300$ after 3-6months

Sounds like merge of Nikon 1 and Sony RX100 but more functional than both.

Good 24h-a-day camera until smartphones get better sensors.

Maybe I'm mixing apples and oranges but anyway what do you think?

Most appeal is probably over Nikon 1 system, which it undercuts massively. Sakar planned to introduce Polaroid-labelled variant of the same thing in the USA, and have been prevented by court order as the design was too close to the Nikon. Samsung has moved the lens over to the left to avoid this problem. Samsung has chosen to make 9mm the base for zooms and primes, which is roughly a 24mm rather than the 10.2mm or 10mm of Sony and Nikon which is more like 27-28mm.

Samsung lenses are probably quite good as they still have a relationship with Schneider (no branding though) the same way Panasonic have with Leica and Sony have with Zeiss. Samsung sensors have been one or two levels below Sony or Nikon, always just looked 'rough' by comparison, but this might be better. At that price it's worth trying out anyway.

Quick look only 6fps.

DPReview.

Allan

True.

"6 fps RAW Continuous Shooting at 20MP".

22 fps is available only in jpeg burst mode in which resolution is only 5MP.

I'm not a video guy but 1080p 60fps sounds very impressive for tiny selfie camera. Nikon can't do that except with most expensive V3.

David, I actually think that it has Sony sensor inside. Never heard of Samsung 20MP 1" BSI but maybe it is something completely new.
