I'm having a devil of a time finding out what this plant is. I'm hoping someone here might know it as it doesn't appear in any of the local or native plant books.
We found it in a sheltered, south facing cove in Southern Vancouver Island, on the West Coast of Canada. It's growing profusely just above the regular high tide mark but well within reach of a swell or storm tide. It's very salt tolerant and smothers the sand between the ivy and the tide mark.

I think it might be a garden escapee.
