I've been adding GPS Coordinates as possible in Lightroom as part of my workflow for some time. Is there any real advantage to doing so as far as searches go? Any other advantages?

Currently, so far as I'm aware,  there's no advantage of adding GPS co-ordinates on Alamy. But I suppose that could change in the future. So, if you've been adding them as part of your workflow and it's quick and easy, it might be worth continuing.

Does anyone know if Alamy strips out the GPS data (like they do with a lot of the metadata) if it's been included?

Hi,

The new version of Photo Mechanic can read the GPS co-ordinates from your camera and include this in the metadata. My latest import process uses this automatically generated data to add keywords as part of the input process. This is a really easy way to have relevant keywords added to your images submitted to Alamy.

Cheers
