Guardian online....

Don't know if the Live News photos are actually live news images. Maybe as they were captioned Live News then that is how they were credited.

The article is dated 13th July, one of the pics is dated 3rd July.

My guess would be that because in the case of classic art, the artist is very much long since dead and  the copyright has effectively expired  due to how long ago the poece was initially created (not sure about what rights the owner of the artwork today has though). With street art, the artwork is new and the artists are very much still alive. This is just my guess though.

Makes sense, mostly, I think. Thanks :-)

Only applies to living artists with lawyers. These are all long, long out of copyright.

So the world is your oyster, if you can get into an art gallery (where there are no photo restrictions) showing the work of deceased, out of copyright, artists :-)

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Now and again museums contact Alamy and demand the removal of photos.

I haven't heard of that. Can you remember an example? I can't think what grounds they would have on out-of-copyright works.

FYHTPA  - Joe Dunckley - A red London bus passes a cycle lane painted on Westminster Bridge

Sorry the article is in Dutch. The writer Matt Steinglass, is the Europe correspondent of The Economist, but there's no equivalent article in his own paper.

In the print version the subtitle is A full English Brexit.

The title reads something like:  Harry Potter's world is at most a slightly exaggerated version of the system chaos in the UK.

Brilliant pick of this image as an illustration! (Which of course resonates with and is readily readable for Dutch readers.)

edit 1: translation - not perfect, but surprisingly good. The last sentence is not about the weather. It should read: But then again it's good for the elm trees. (Weer meaning both again and weather.)

edit 2: Joe, if you're reading this, here's the tear sheet.
