Thought I saw one on the BBC News -  MNMEDA but sorry on closer inspection the ribbon isn't fluttering in the wind and a cloud looked slightly different. I've posted a link in case  you sent some elsewhere as well?

Good idea. A few miles from where I live. I should be paying closer attention ;)

One of the photos was on the Alamy Live News twitter feed.

The local newspapers get all the leads and stories first. We all play catch up for alot of the time...but they don't have the worldwide wire distribution that Alamy has...;)

Just saw your tweet about Clara Ponsati. I happened to be walking past the Sheriff Court that day after going to a class and saw the crowds gathered there. I spoke to a photographer to ask who she was. Possibly it could have been you. I took some photos too, naturally.

I also happened to be in Glasgow on a training course the day of the fire, and took some photos on my way to the train station at the end of the afternoon. Got a few good shots, but too late. Yours had already made the headlines. Small world.

It's not over till it's over! ;) ...and even then, it's not! :D

Indeed. Our local rag had a report from Prince William's wedding as a flashback. They wouldn't have paid for the image they used but you never know, things happen in, or to, royal marriages, so I understand.

Ha. I was in the Glasgow to shoot straight stock. Smelt smoke and followed my nose. Obviously all the press agencies were there too and PA got most of the published images, but I did my best...-_-

Local newspapers will often to tip you off as and when something happens in exchange for a few free shots these days - they often have no staff photographers and zero buying-in budget, so a tit-for-tat deal works to their advantage. You can always say you're too busy if the story doesn't sound it's worth the effort, and on the odd occasion it might pay dividends.

My local newspaper has an octogenarian taking free photos for them, which he does out of his own generosity.

I've been doing the gardening since 9.30 this morning. Just come into the office at 12.30 for a break.

Following the local media is an excellent source for stories.

Case in point... I have just returned from one story I found out about fifteen minutes before I got there thanks to a tweet from the local TV station. Whilst out I popped around to a nearby toko to buy some agar-agar I wanted for another photo idea... and bumped into another news story in front of the shop.

I sometimes break stories before the local media; Twitter is a good source of breaking news, i.e "why is the police helicopter hovering over my house" .  I have also trained my wife and children to let me know if they see a news story.  My son recently spotted an illegal traveller encampment being set up and gave me a ring......   The local paper has only one contract photographer and a lot of local stories do not get any cover - for example at the local elections there was no local coverage of the count.  A pity, a good local newspaper is essential for asking questions of those in poower.

Blimey, have you seen the number of Alamy Live News submissions just for "wedding preparations"?  It's going to be madness on Saturday.  Wondering if I can come up with something completely different on the day.......

And now for something completely different today......

Well, it's looking like the only benefit we can show from our efforts is a tan!

Yeah, I haven't seen the "found images" thread for May being full of Royal Wedding shots.

I hear that the atmosphere was fun in Windsor however from the friends of mine who were there (non-photographers).
