It makes sense, I agree.

And then the possible downside is that in trying to be more diverse, people can expand into areas in which they have no experience, so their photos may be inferior to those of a specialist, yet be higher in the search, and (as so often seen) they might* caption/keyword wrongly their non-specialist subject/s, also a disservice to clients. Presumably an unintended consequence of the policy.

*Not everyone, obviously.

but the buyers will determine what is inferior....best photo wins regardless of experience, caption, keywording, etc.

  • if they have the wrong keywording/caption or it shows up in the wrong search, the buyer won't select it.
  • if it's inferior, the buy won't select it.
  • both these will influence where the photos will show up in the rankings going forward, will they not?

Allegedly, but it's not always what I see, looking at where my own 'series' pics show, which often seems to bear little resemblance to how often they've been zoomed or sold.

Even if it does work, it must take a very long time to have an effect - certainly well over five years for one particular series I keep a close eye on, which has a few files with multiple sales, some files with one sale and most with no sales, but search position seems very random.

Disappointing month with 9 for $274 gross including three distributor sales.

May looking bleak too, nothing to date...... :(

Year looking pretty grim also comparing with 2017 overall down about 40% on sales volume and 14% on revenue on period to date. Encouraging to see others doing better, who knows what's around the corner.

Record setting month for me.

I had 1,411 views, which is about average for me, 12 zooms which is very high for me, 6 sales which is record breaking for me, for a total of $354.43, again record breaking.

I only have 849 images in my port currently so I'm quite pleased.  I do understand this is quite unusual.  I guess the stars just all lined up perfectly for me in April.
