How many images did you submit to Alamy in 2017 and how does it compare to previous years?

My conclusion is that you do a lot of thinking about these things! :D

I am always very impressed by the conclusions you reach though!

I don’t have time to count each year. In 2016 I made a goal to submit at least 100 images a month. I hit that goal and more.

2017, because of life challenges and being unable to get out and shoot as often, wasn’t good.

2017 - 710

2016 - 1214

Adding those two years together though, I get 1924, not far off an average of 1000 a year.

I'm trying to upload at least 1000 images a year.

I've got a back-log of nearly 2 years of photos to sort out. There are probably 2-3000 'Alamy suitable' images amongst them.

Life keeps getting in the way though!

I'm always wary of conclusions, but I'd say that the number of new images uploaded per year is more important -- from a sales growth  POV -- for newer contributors than for long-time ones who tend to rely on established repeat sellers for steady income.

Or who at least aim for a significant amount of repeat sellers.

I can conclude that it is difficult to come to conclusions  that fit everyones data.

One thing I can see is that most contributors reporting here are far more consistent than myself in keeping to a steady rate of submission through the years.

Also it suggests that contributors were still going strong through 2017 after many years. Though that can be misleading as anyone losing interest and cutting down submitting, probably wouldn't bother to attend the forum or comment here.

2017 - 356

2016 - 228

2015 -   85

2014 - 176

2013 - 285

2012 - 431

2011 - 576

2010 - 994

2009 - 615

Not sure how to interpret that - I know that in 2016/7 death/illness (not mine) got in the way of travel plans.

Not sure what happened in 2015, though - rain, probably, which is a very common issue hereabouts, and the pressure of having two gardens (mine/mum's) to look after when it's dry, not leaving many dry days for photography in any year.

I started in February 2017 and managed to get 3000 images uploaded. A lot of work going back through catalogs, being annoyed with myself for not shooting more general shots as I was more into the landscape images etc.

Not being in the UK I'm disadvantaged in some ways but I've made a challenge to try and shoot where I am with stock in mind. I'm also taking more video as that can be quite worth doing, sold some footage you wouldn't think people would buy.

10 sales last year but only 1 3 figure sale. 1 refund for $50. December was terrible.

I only have data from 2013 onwards

Year    Added     Total images

2013     87               439

2014     73               513

2015     191             704

2016     511            1318

2017    2851           4303

I have basically added 240 images a month over the last 18 months, so I do have a conclusion which is, that during the latter half of 2016 and the whole of 2017, I have made significant efforts to add images with the aim of generating more sales. I intend to continue to do this throughout 2018 at least in order to see if I can actually make some money at this game. I am not expecting a fortune but just some supplementary income. I will add that I do not expect to match 2851 additions this year but who knows! I dont know if my strategy is working but I can say that in 2017 I had more sales (27) than all the other years put together despite the fact that I only had 2 sales between Jan and May. Now back to processing and keywording!
