How many images did you submit to Alamy in 2017 and how does it compare to previous years?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

During 2017 I submitted more images than any previous years. My demanding 'day job' came to an end late Nov 2016 and I found time to focus on photography and give stock another chance.

How many images do you submit to Alamy each year? Have you increased or decreased the number you submit in recent years?

Here are my numbers (approx):

2017:  3400

2016:  300 (All during December)

2015:  0

2014: 150

2013: 20

2012: 1800

2011:  1500

2010: 2400 (Just started, very keen and hopeful)

Andy

2017 - 186

2016 - 100

2015 - 463

2014 - 1110

2013 - 417

Went a little crazy and uploaded almost everything at the beginning.  Also been real busy with my real business last couple of years so photography has taken a back burner, but hoping to do a lot more in 2018.

Hope you don't mind the cut and paste. Uploaded rather than taken- this is from my sales age spreadsheet.

To make it a bit more interesting I am adding my 'total sales' for each year:

Year     Uploads    Sales

2017 :  3400        :   191

2016 :  300          :    159

2015 :  0               :    125

2014 : 150           :     104

2013 : 20              :    123

2012 : 1800         :     111

2011 :  1500        :       41

2010 :  2400         :       2

Lightroom gives the number added to the catalogue each year in the folder pane if that helps. I upload as I go so it does.

My couple of pre- LR years I think I did from IM but you have to add those up by hand. Or tot up your jpeg export folders, if you keep your uploads.

Is there an easy way to calculate this?

Yes there is. Go to the "My submissions" column in AIM (left side) and highlight your most recent submission. Then scroll down to your first submission of the year and press the "Shift" key (PC). This should highlight all your submissions for the year. The total number of images should soon appear at the top. Doing this gave me a total of 650 images for 2017. Still working on other years.

P.S. You can highlight the submissions one-by-one using the Ctrl key if the "Shift" option doesn't work on your computer.

Yes that's how I did it. I think it also includes any QC failures.

I've been lucky not to have any of those for a couple of years. Can't you just deselect failed submissions?

Shall experiment later when I have the time.

I was struggling to identify the ones to deselect as it isn't obvious which are failures from the submissions on left hand column.

Each submission in the left-hand column is marked Passed or Failed with the number of images following -- e.g. Passed: 24,  Failed: 15, etc.

So they are. I guess I rushed through it without looking too closely.

This might be interesting to some new contributors who may only have a handful of sales so far and feel a bit disheartened. I went from just 2 sales in my first year (I joined Feb 2010) to 111 in my third year. So it takes time for sales to get moving on Alamy.

Fails have a pink edge to the panel. But now you come to mention it they are rather hard to spot. It must be because there are so few of them, boast boast.

Partial errors are in peach. Or is it salmon?

Data without context is just info. Which is a nice way of saying it's worthless.

Information is data with context.

Knowledge however..

So has anyone any theory or conclusion?

With this only the start of my 3rd year on Alamy, there's not too much to report, but I thought I'd post it so you can all laugh at me!

Year     Images    Sales

2017      544           39

2016      677            5

I've seen 4 of my Storm Eleanor pics used in various newspapers last night and today so that's a good start to the year methinks!  Onwards and upwards.
