Low sale or distributor sale?

Recommended Posts

Just had a very low sale, my second lowest at $8.71 (lowest is $5.40!), but after a massive reduction, not the normal 50% it says my share is $2.62?

It is my first in a country other than a "United Kingdom" "Worldwide" or "United States", this is my first sale out of that trio, in the Czech Republic.

Is this therefore a distributor sale and therefore the discount is less than 50%?

Country: Czech Republic
Usage: Editorial
Media: Magazine - print, digital and electronic
Print run: up to 10,000
Placement: Inside
Image Size: 1/4 page
Start: 01 July 2016
End: 01 July 2021
Flat rate per image. Bulk discount. Duration: 1 month.$ 8.71Total sales$8.71

Thanks

Chris

Please don't discuss low prices. This is a public forum.

As this is a public forum, just an idea, when we put up `How was your month` etc perhaps we should just say how many sales we had and not for how much.

(in the past i have put up the amount but on thinking, there's no point !) Just my view :-)

Discuss whatever you like. This is a public forum.

So it is- and as such it is accessible to image buyers who may get ideas about how cheap images can be bought for.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should- I for one feel a responsibility to my fellow professionals to avoid lines of discussion which might impact their earnings. I am coming to the view that we owe one another a similar courtesy. So I won't be revealing low prices- how low, I'm working on.

Plus 1. I shall follow in your footsteps when you reveal them. ;)

Firstly, I thought the fact we logged in meant it wasn't a public forum, but seeing as it obliviously isn't, I understand your concerns, but more concerning is the fact a distributor sale can be so low.

I know personal sales are, as are some paper sales, but I wasn't aware a distributor sale took so much commission from a sale. Now I do know, I will have to look at opting out.

Are all distributor sales commissioned this way?

Also, why haven't you said this to other people who have put high or low prices on the forum, such as the personal use thread you commented on? Because looking at those threads, which have gone on for a while, in great detail, they have discussed prices and also the fact that people are able to "get around" realistic prices by buying it for personal use?

There are also plenty of threads that do have prices on?

I was simply trying to find out why I had a ridiculously low sale with a large discount taken out, thanks to Geoff's comment I now know.

"Are all distributor sales commissioned this way?"

Yes, there's no secret about it:

"Sell images though our global distribution network
We have a large network of specialist stock photo agencies who distribute your images in countries and regions that we don’t work with directly or where there’s a language barrier.

Opt in and you’ll get 30% of the sale (we receive 30% and our distributors get 40%). The commission split is different because there’s a third party involved."

There's been some discussion about not discussing low prices, but I'm not policing the forums. If I see other examples I may make the same suggestion on those.

well AFAIK, distributor sales are always lower since its split three ways. Agency, distributor and photographer. As far as discussing sales amounts on a public forum it can result in bad publicity and embarrassments. I dont particularly want people to see I am virtually giving my pics away. Embarrasing! isnt it.

Besides in most agencies one is not allowed to mention sums just sales.

I had two $500+ sales to France since last year, through a distributor. Even with the split, I can still net more than usual. Only wish distributors from all other places try to do the same.
