Research suggests that pushy patients distract doctors to the extent that their judgement is affected. The guide argues that eating in a TV and radio free environment encourages you to eat less. The reasoning behind this is that if there is less noise then you become more aware of the sound of your own chewing so increasing awareness as highlighted by Professor Gina Mohr of Colorado State University.
