Rubio uses stock footage of Vancouver by mistake in ad campaign

Recommended Posts

In his latest ad, Marco Rubio uses stock footage of Vancouver to promote the "Morning in Ameirca" theme.  The Canadian flag on the tugboat is quite visible, and anyone who knows Vancouver would notice it in a moment.

Don't these agency guys pay attention? Didn't Tesco once use a photo of beef cattle to promote milk?

Could also be the very definition of Republicans; Canada is (or has to be) the USofA. ;)

besides, one of my Cambodia shots was used to illustrate an article over Thailand.

My Keywords had stamped cambodia all over the picture.

When I worked on staff at an airline, I made a point of keeping the transparencies separated by location. When I resigned, I warned the management people to continue with this practice. About six months after I left, I read that someone had successfully sued the carrier for misrepresenting a vacation package they had bought by using an image taken by me in an entirely different location.

To add insult to Rubio's injury, that looks like the new Trump hotel tower currently under construction in Vancouver visible on the left side near the loading cranes.

BTW Vancouver's mayor is trying to get the developer to remove the Trump insignia from the building.

A Toronto Councillor is also trying to get the Trump name remove from the Toronto Trump Tower.

I heard both Rubio and Trump plan to invade Vancouver, if either get elected. But only after they build their wall along the Canada US border.

I heard it was Toronto. Whatever the case, it's going to be tough climbing that wall. Wonder what they'll make it out of. Empty maple syrup bottles?

During out last Mayoral campaign,  Republican candidate Joe Lhota used a bunch of photos they found on Flickr. When they got caught they tried to shake it off saying they thought Royalty Free meant Free.

These campaign workers really need to work a little harder.

Don't these agency guys pay attention? Didn't Tesco once use a photo of beef cattle to promote milk?

Other howlers include:

The face of a Turkish man on tubs of Greek yoghurt (sizeable damages resulted IIRC).

The British political party (was it UKIP?) that illustrated their British jobs for British workers campaign with a picture of Polish workers..

And the best of the lot: Birmingham City Council (UK) used a photo of Birmingham (Alabama) to promote their city.

Trump's "great people" also made a campaign ad blooper (probably intentional) last month showing Moroccans rather than Mexicans rushing the border, the wrong border of course.

Ha, I had to check, and I located that stock footage. It's title has sunset in it, rather than morning, And the keywords include several different cities, including several American ones.

No, elsewhere.  I was suprised at the bad keywording - including New York and San Francisco in the keywords along with Vancouver.  I guess that's why they grabbed it for the ad.  I wonder if the producer of the video or the stock company will get any flack for misrepresenting the footage.

Let's not forget John McCain's 2008 acceptance speech at the Republicon, oops, Republican Convention in front of a projected image of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, except it was really a stock photo of Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood.

A bit off-topic for my friends north of the border (and everyone else too). Go to Youtube and search: Canada Announces 2016 Presidential Candidacy

It's hilarious.

Lots of Rubioesque errors, our own beloved/hated Tory party dropped a bit of a clanger: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2896164/Tories-road-recovery-actually-photo-GERMANY-Labour-accused-misleading-cuts-claims.html

Edit: Out of curiosity, who would the paper have to pay license fees to for that one?

Assuming the Conservative Party licensed it from SS or wherever for PR use, I think not.

For the original photograph, presumably the Mail licensed it directly. Otherwise how did they get it without a watermark.

Edit: the unaltered version is all over the place. And GIS has gone to pot.
