So you have your answer. The only problem now is that, your  having asked and got the qualified answer, the venue are now on notice if you do send images here.

True, but I didn't upload anything from last year anyway, so I'm not losing anything.

 

I really need some hints on how to do better about getting permission.

Like I said in the OP, I usually get no reply at all; yet that Alamy blog seemed to suggest it was quite simple, you just asked and got.

Alamy have asked me to attend a few events and I have got free entry and car pass. One event last year also gave internet access and free food, Had a great day and a contact email for this years event.

No harm in asking Alamy to get permission and maybe a ticket
