Adie
The above photograph of a white admiral was taken by Nature Picture Library and spotted by Whitby Photographer Aiden Clarke and found in a Guardian article dated 15-12-15 (http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/dec/15/decline-in-over-three-quarters-uk-butterfly-species-final-warning-says-chris-packham). The report is about the demise of butterflies in the UK, three quarters of which are in decline. The worst affected are the common species in contrast to the rare breeds which have been much helped by careful conservation. The photo above appears in the same article and is of a Duke of Burgundy butterfly the photographer is Peter Smith and the photo was discovered by Aiden Clarke. The Duke of Burgundy is one butterfly that has benefited from conservation and is curently on the increase. The above image of a Purple Emperor butterfly appeared in the same piece and was photographed by Our Wild Life Photography and located by Aiden Clarke Photography in the Guardian. The Purple Emperor is a case in point in that it may have decreased in numbers but has appeared to become more widespread.
