October 2015 Challenge "THE DECISIVE MOMENT"

Three from me

a-lady-climber-leaping-a-large-crevasse-

My pudd'n of delight jumping a crevasse. It wasn't that wide but it was very deep and the start of the jump was about 4-5 feet higher than where you landed. It was an impressive place. I had Helene teetering nervously getting ready for the jump, the guide shouting at me to put my camera down and concentrate, I was walking backwards to keep the rope as tight as possible. I had prefocussed on the crevasse (I was the first to jump so I had a minute to plan the shot while managing the rope and anchor), set the camera to bracket a stop each side of metered and when Helene jumped I shot one handed with the camera held away from me at eye level, iPhone style, while I trotted backwards to keep the rope from gathering where where she was going to land. Luckily the shutter speed was so high that the three were sharp and there was one where she was in mid flight.

Jumping Adam and Eve on Tryfan in north Wales. Another inspiring spot as the drop on the other side of these two blocks is plenty far enough.

My son looking out of a playground game. I knelt there, knees complaining, for so long and I was about to give in when he finally did what I hoped he would and looked out.

though I am a bit worried about the dog who has run afoul of a swan!

Don't worry, the dog was fine.

But I bet he keeps his feet dry nowadays.

(The glass of claret was fine too).

Cyclist Crete

Having seen people pass this way, I waited with my telephoto focused on the corner, and sure as eggs, after about 10 minutes a cyclist appeared in the frame.

Rapper Dancer takes tumble

I get dragged to various parts of the country to see folk dancing with my wife who is an enthusiast. I quite enjoy the music but the dancing is more of an acquired taste. However the rapper teams are always worth watching. Their swift footwork is a delight while those treacherous steel bands often draw blood. This team appeared on the Saturday but had to retire on the Sunday due to injuries sustained. Part of the routine normally involves a "tumble" or back somersault, and this one went wrong. The lad was OK though, he picked himself up and continued dancing.

Curious as I am, had to look up "rapper dance" because I've never heard of it. How on earth can a human remember all those moves:blink:

Cheers,

Philippe

Beats me Philippe, I was once asked to join a Rapper Team, but beat a hasty retreat!  Those guys in the video are good, but the pace is a good deal slower than the best that I have seen. I believe that the rapper dance originated with pitmen in the north east of England.

This topic will hopefully make me think more about the decisive moment. In the meantime, I offer these three:
