Olivier Parent 395 Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) OCTOBER 2015: THE DECISIVE MOMENT More than other forms of visual expression, photography captures the moment. One of the most famous photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, converted this ability into a permanent quest. I am sure we all know that picture of a man jumping over a puddle, or Robert Capa’s « Falling soldier » that are some of the most well-known examples of the decisive moment; this half second when a photographer has to press the shutter, half a second earlier being too early and half a second later being too late. I would like to see your best examples of this decisive moment. That could apply to almost any kind of photography: travel, sports, wildlife, wedding, landscape, macro… Of course, there must be some kind of action in the pictures! Usual rules apply: • maximum of 3 images per competitor • pictures must be available on Alamy • 8 images will be shortlisted • the winner will start November Challenge Please note that closing time/date is midnight (UK time)/Friday 30th October. Below are some examples. I hope you will enjoy it. Good luck! Edited October 5, 2015 by Olivier Parent

Martin P Wilson 1,131 Posted October 6, 2015 Thanks Allan, dramatic but the driver was fine. I don't machine-gun, I only shoot a sequence when something happens in front of me that justifies it. I predicted something would happen as three boats went into the turn side by side; so as soon as the crash started I pressed and held the shutter while tracking the action. Allan Bell 1,690 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Drip. Coots sparing. Cambridgebid ambassadors in step. There was another one, which I would like to have used of a falcon hovering, but could not use it as the Alamy logo obliterated the centre of the image making it unsuitable for this competition. Martin P Wilson 1,131 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) My third: Allan, You will be OK to use your cricket pic, I have just reread the rules and it has to be on Alamy. Mine isn't, I thought I had uploaded it years ago I will have to find another image, I do have another powerboat pic to replace the cricket pic. I will have a think about what else I might have. Armstrong 427 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Another excellent idea for a challenge. Here's my submission. A Royal Swan Upper catches a swan during the annual Swan Upping Ceremony on the River Thames at Henley. The Queen traditionally owns all of the unmarked Swans on open water in the UK. Swan Upping is an ancient tradition where all of the mute Swans along a stretch of the Thames are caught, marked and released. It is also serves as a census of the health of the Swan population. NYCat 1,602 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) I'm enjoying this contest, though I am a bit worried about the dog who has run afoul of a swan! The new huge images are not wearing well with me for this so I am going to use the small ones. I wish we could still do the large but not huge ones. My first one doesn't benefit from the new watermark. Ah for the good old days.... D6D0FG Polar bear leaping over melting ice in the arctic. EKDJ28 Grizzly bear cub running through sedge grass. F3K90R Cocoi Heron ascending with a fish. Hope they don't look too small. Paulette Edited October 10, 2015 by NYCat
