June challenge "Night"

Recommended Posts

I don't have many taken at night :(

Not necessarily a barrier to entering: just because the theme is "night" doesn't necessarily mean an entry must have been taken "at" night. Okay, almost every pic so far is a building of some sort at night, but that is surely only one interpretation of "night" as a theme . . . dunno know about you, but my thinking cap is getting a bit of a workout.

I'm going to have to ponder on that for a while I think. This statement seems to imply that they do have to taken at night: "For the sake of definition 'night' is when the sun is below the horizon."

I've yet to see a comp that didn't encourage contributors to display their personal interpretation of the theme.

Jeff Greenberg is right, imo, when he asserts above that his pic of people looking at the van Gogh masterpiece qualifies for the theme.

Go on, be a devil, see if you can come up with something different :-)

The first is quite a topical entry from me - a photograph of a very happy Laura Trott after winning the elite women's race at the London Nocturne event on the 8th June.  A brilliant day out for cycling fans, which culminates in the elite men and women's race after sunset.

Not a particularly illuminating (get it?!) subject but I like it! Stoke City Council offices floodlit at night. (no longer floodlit at night due to cost savings)

Being a bit of a night photography afficianado myself I'll have to jump in with this one;

BMBKCJ.jpg

New Zealand Top Bike ace, Athol WIlliams getting the rear bag nice and warm before a run at the Perth Motorplex.

BNGRT0.jpg

Out at Bells Rapids. Me and John Hurney had good fun this night ... up to 4 flash guns going and exposures from 30 seconds out to about 3 or 4 minutes at times.

In retrospect, I'd have processed this a tad 'Cooler', or knocked the 'Warmth' off the rocks a bit.

A852WT.jpg

One of my all time favourites from a 15 year drag racing shooter 'career'. It's different because it hasn't been panned with 2nd curtain or multiple flashes.

Rather, the camera is on a tripod, with exposure experiments ranging from 0.5 seconds to about 1.5 seconds. Bearing in mind these cars are out of the hole and hitting the 60-foot timing beam in less than a second sometimes, so exposure time is important to get that look without the car being too much of a ghost. Can't honestly remember what I did flash wise with this one.

Cheers
