If you had any doubts the future is mirrorless ...

Recommended Posts

Now I'm really confused. lol If you have an SLT A55 how can you say it has a fixed mirror and is mirrorless? I have an A33 and have used the A58, A66, A77 which I was lead to believe were all mirrorless. That's what I get for taking one's word on that and not doing the research. My bad!

On the other end of this question, I'm wondering how things are going with those who have already been selling off your DSLR cameras and lenses?  Have eBayers and craigslist devotees been scooping them up, or what?

It's been a little while (about 9 months) since I sold my 5dmkii. I got £1150 for it, paid £1600 when new and had 3 years use. All in all, not bad. Other 5dmkii's sold at the time were being sold between £880 - £1200 depending on condition and number of actuations etc.

As far as lenses go, I mostly made a profit. I bought a 100-400 for £800 from a UK dealer on Ebay 4 years ago and when I sold the lens, I got £1,050. There are more than enough people still interested in buying larger cameras to get a good return. Made anywhere from £50 - £100 on other lenses. The only one that returned a loss was the Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro. Lost £150 on that but it is more of a specialist lens.

Until mirrorless builds in popularity, I doubt you will see cameras or lenses holding price as well as that. That said, I have no plan to off load the lenses I have as they are all extremely good.

No, they're all fixed-mirror.

Ouch, I meant the A7 is mirrorless, not A55. Sorry.

Look at them- the NEXes and the A7 are much thinner because there's no mirror box.

Ed, sometimes it can be worth the cost of subscription to Nikonians, just to use the buy/sell forum.  I've sold a camera and several lenses in the past through them.

I also found a Nikon flash there that is out of production.

I realize you haven't had a lot of use for the show and tell aspect of Nikonians, but hey, I use whatever source I can.  If you are stuck with a Nikon product that you have tried and failed to sell, Nikonians is worth a shot.

I think I had one failure of interest on one item. Everything else I listed sold within a week.  It just depends on who is wanting/looking at any given time.

Part of the reason for my switch to mirror less was due to the constant nagging from SWMBO whenever we got on an aeroplane and I used all of my cabin allowance with photo gear.  Another reason was that I climbed Helvellyn and crossed Striding Edge a couple of years ago carrying a DSLR and lenses and realised that a man needs to know his limitations - 40+ years ago it would not have bothered me, but as you get on......  :o

I love the portability and discreetness of the NEX 6 and carry it virtually everywhere I go, including when I cycle. I still have the DSLR but hardly use it, I really should sell.

I was a member of Nikonians for a long time, even stayed as a paid member. Then I had two unpleasant experiences, one when someone contacted me about buying a lens and the other, earlier, when I tried to get their camera insurance. I also don't trust the security of trying to sell through craigslist here in the city. So it will be eBay when I finally get to it.

I understand.  I have had nothing but good experiences, thankfully!  All of my transactions went smoothly.  And yes, I doubt I would sell through craigslist in the NYC area, either. I have done so here, but I've met the buyer in a public place for exchange. Like the lobby of WalMart, lol!

Hmmmmmm. This 'new' trend for mirrorless cameras. The makers of the ones I use regularly are celebrating their 100th birthday in Germany this year. Most of my work (not stock of course) is also done on a mirrorless. Just a big sheet of 8" x 10" glass at the back but no mirror!

I can not understand your grippe with NYC -you only have negative comments about the city: did we really treated you that bad?
