Disappearing Captions?

Mark Scheuern

Question

It seems that all of my captions have disappeared from my most recent submission. I'm quite sure that I did caption them all, and in fact I thought that they couldn't even go on sale without captioning. Weird. Anyone else have that happen?

Yes, they are. I just checked. I had uploaded them, captioned them in Image Manager, they went on sale, and now no captions. Fortunately a small number of images and they had similar captions so not hard to re-do, but a rather strange thing.

That is really weird, never had that. Surely they wouldn't be on sale if no caption. Suggest you email Alamy, sounds like a system bug.

Maybe someone else will chime in, sorry can't help more.

I experienced something similar some time ago. I consulted with Alamy. I wasn't 100 percent sure if I made a mistake myself. Captions disappeared for about 250 photos. I happened to notice this. Although the subtitles were missing, they were still on sale.
I was suggesting some notification in AIM. Everything went to waste. Maybe there are other photos where I don't have captions, but I don't know about them and cannot find out.

Thanks, Radim. Interesting. Yes, it crossed my mind that it would be worrisome if captions disappeared from older submissions. It was obvious with this one since I just submitted them a few days ago, but it makes me wonder.

Again

I also found a photo that I did not correct and it is still for sale even though there are no captions 2BK2AH1

It will still show in search as it's tagged. Tags have a higher significance that captions anyway.

Yes, but if you don't have a caption, it will appear on page 28, maybe even worse. Who is willing to click through to page 3 let alone other pages

You could I guess download your data csv and import it into a spreadsheet and search for blank entries in the caption field.

I have about 42 thousand pictures and there are people here who have many more pictures. It would be better if there was an option in AIM to search for empty caption fields.

Somehow I doubt that Alamy will be doing that, just saying that it would be quick and easy to do, 42,000 is nothing for a spreadsheet. You can just sort it by the caption column, or use the Autofilter on that column.

I got response from Alamy, which was that yes indeed, it's odd, and the suggestion to caption the images again and see if they stick this time. So I get the impression it's not something they've seen before.

Mark,

I thought I was losing my mind, but maybe I am not. I am very careful and only upload in small numbers, usually single image at a time.  I also have all information ready to insert for all fields and a last week I was checking over things in 'Manage Images' and saw a couple of images without the long captions, second page of IPTC, forgot what Alamy calls that field, but

that field was empty.  I've been too busy to spend time on it, but your post reminded me.  During the last weeks there have been some strange things going on with the site?

but since there isn't

a round-about way to isolate subset of images is possible

if one has same word or nonsense-word in most-all of one's images;

clicking on your forum-image-count link, one gets:
hi-res stock photography and images - Alamy

notice how your account name is a filter? don't delete that filter;

now type "NOT X" where X = word or nonsense word appearing in most-all your images & search

you will be returned mostly-only images without those elements, which could be all images with nothing...
