Standard and Individual

Question

Standard and Enhanced arrived some time back.

Now it seems we have a newcomer- Individual licences

Country: Worldwide
Usage: Standard, Standard License for 1 user only. Allowed usage: across websites, social media, short-form video on video sharing sites, digital publishing, digital marketing, and print runs up to 100,000. Restrictions stated prior to or at time of purchase may limit the scope of permissible usage.
Start: 10 September 2024
Duration: In perpetuity

Country: Worldwide
Usage: Individual, Individual License for 1 user only. Allowed usage: across websites and social media, short-form-video on video sharing sites, digital publishing, digital marketing, print runs of up to 5,000 for print marketing, print publishing and self-published book. Restrictions stated before or at time of purchase may limit the scope of permissible usage.
Start: 17 September 2024
Duration: In perpetuity

A higher fee for a lower print run.

Other Individual licences are at different prices

$ 15.21
$ 8.58
$ 21.95

A Standard licence is for ONE user the same as an Individual license is for ONE user.

All very confusing.

$ 7.40

Well, if I look via a Private Window in Firefox so that Alamy doesn't know my details then Standard and Enhanced have gone, now replaced by these Individual & Team licenses. Is this just another trial? Presumably registered buyers don't get to see these.

I don't see any changes at all - don't see any of these options. I thought Prints were coming mid-Augusts and that hasn't happened.

What the heck is going on?

Hi Ian,

If you want to see these options, firstly log out of Alamy. Then close the browser Window. Then make sure you have quit the browser application as well. Then re-open the browser and the Alamy search page. Search for anything at all and pick an image and open it. You should then see the Individual and Team license options. The options have already changed since a couple of days ago so there are now just two options under the team license option (editorial and commercial) whereas there were three options the other day. Other info has changed too. It seems to be constantly changing at the moment.

If you use Google Chrome as your browser, then the easiest way is just to open a 'New Incongnito Window' (from 3 dots in the top-right corner of the browser window).

And having done the above myself, I discovered this link: https://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/

Thanks Matt, that’s a better way of doing it. Thanks for the link as well. It looks quite comprehensive with the aim of meeting diverse customer uses. I think I realise now why I was seeing three instead of two options under Team License, which was probably due to the image I was looking at being RF instead of RM. Will look further into it later.

Yes, from July 30, "If you make your images available for All Uses (both commercial and editorial) then there will be a 'buy the print' button under those images where customers can purchase a physical print of the image. In essence, there will no longer a 'Personal Use' option for the customer." This was expected to take a couple of weeks as Ian says.

Then people began to notice that obscure little used browsers were coming up with other options, then they weren't. Now it seems that you just need to be a new unregistered user to take advantage of these Individual & Team options as well as "Buy the print", just as up until a few days ago you could have done the same with the Standard and Enhanced licences. All these licences have been selling because it's been reported on here, just as Ian has noticed this new manifestation in his sales history.

So it begs the question as to what happens to one of these new users who then goes on to register, are they able to access those same licences in some way that we are not able to see? Also, is this intended to be what all buyers will see once plans have been finalised? It does seem to be dragging on a bit.

I've seen Individual and Team licenses on other websites, but I thought they applied only to RF images, not RM. 🤔

BTW, I find that in addition to logging out of both the Forum and the Alamy website, I usually have to clear my browser (FireFox) in order to see the new licensing options.

Tomorrow I will be giving this my full and considered attention, or if it's not raining I may take some pictures.

I think I might join you Mr Standfast. Taking pictures is more fun. I’m grateful Alamy handle the ins and outs of licensing and not me 😅

In this new page I see that now the 'Buy the print' option is not there for Editorial images. It is also slightly spruced up from the standard page with the exisiting licensing options in that the main image now has grey sidebars, the 'Enlarge' button has been removed but an icon appears at the centre if you hover over the image. Clicking anywhere on the image or the sidebars gives you the enlarged view, the 'Zoom'.

I see a new Media ID reference number

Also seeing an incorrect attribution that images are historical or reportage when they are not - just submitted a routine stock uploads and via the QC system.

Alamy Photo Prints and Wall Art

Village parish church of Saint Margaret of Antioch, Shottisham, Suffolk, England, UK

This image could have imperfections as it's either historical or reportage.

Media ID 39533478

Yes, same for my images, a new Media ID and "This image could have imperfections as it's either historical or reportage" in the Print Order screen. The search box in the print order screen seems to expect a Media ID rather than keywords etc. but comes up with an image with a different Media ID.

From here https://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/

Individual license
The individual license is designed for people working on their own to use in a wide variety of digital and print projects. But you can’t pass or transfer an image/license to another user. Who is this license for?

  • For one user only
  • Unlimited web usage across websites and social media platforms including short-form video on video-sharing sites
  • Digital publishing and digital marketing
  • Self-published books up to 5,000 prints
  • Print runs up to 5,000 (print marketing and print publishing)

Team licenses
For teams and larger company use, these licenses offer flexibility allowing teams to share the images, vectors or videos while working together on a project. Who are these licenses for?

  • Multiple users to collaborate on a single project
  • Editorial, commercial and royalty-free options available
  • Enhanced options that offer different types of usage from museum displays to press releases, merchandise to digital advertising
  • Editorial and commercial film, TV, video and games options available"

Mmm... I'm not sure about the Team vs Individual distinction. How can this be enforced? When a usage is found, how are we supposed to know if the article was a "team" effort? I checked one of my images and the Individual Licence is £35 and Team Licence is £50.

Will "Individual" become the new "Personal" use?

Shouldn't licence types be based solely on the end usage and not whether one or more people collaborated in the production?

Looking at prints I see what harry mentions - using the Media ID in the search box calls up the wrong image.

That's now been fixed so you can find an image using its Media ID, presumably it will only have a Media ID if someone has ordered a print. The search box also accepts keywords, "church" for example which brings up 1875 results. I can only assume that these are are images where prints have been ordered, you are encouraged to click on a link to search the whole Alamy library instead.
