Anyone else struggling or is it just me this month

Recommended Posts

Good one to report so far with six sales for $406 gross. A $$$ TV license on Aug. 1st got things off to a healthy start. Both June and July were very slow during the first half of the month, but they ended well. Hopefully August isn't going in reverse. 🙃

I'm always struggling!

I'm with you Brian, except Thank God I'm not with you in PA, lived outside of Pittsburg for a few years and I hated it.  I got more speeding tickets in PA than I have in my entire life.

Chuck, I've just gotten back from NYC and found this. Let me just say that Lancaster isn't Pittsburgh or even outside of Pittsburgh. I'm fine here.

Oh ... I love Pittsburgh too, especially the steps, don't get me wrong.

While I do wish I still lived in NYC, all it takes is one look at housing prices to get me to change my mind.

I know numbers fluctuate a lot but half way through July and I have just 1 sale ( $11) and just 2 zooms. Is there a general issue or is it just my turn for a bad month ? It does seem rather terrible.

1 sale for $62 but only 20% to me LOL

Now at August 1 sale for... $1 LOL again

Only one sale since I advanced to the Gold level way back in March... feeling discouraged!!

Maybe most/some will disagree, but the way I see is a number game, the quality of the image, and how the way captions and keywords are described. If is so easy I think everyone with a decent camera will jumped in to try make a sale. I been through your stage, most of the contributors as well. A few good time will eventually come along if you pushes on.

Looking at my sales volume chart, from 2015 -2017 it was a struggle because I wasn't consistently uploading, then 3x the sales picked up plenty in 2019, 2020 was the pandemic and sales went slightly down till 2021. 2022-2023 went up slightly, 2024 shot up twice the volume, BUT, revenue overall isn't catching up as compare to 2022 & 2023.

Do think about it, is it worth your time and effort to do it because the market is really over-saturated. If you are a full time photographer - is managing your business worth more of your time than doing stock images? If you shoot on the weekend for some side income, then definitely a large volume and high quality images are required over long period of time. Capture the type of subject that you are passionate or knowledgeable about, that will hone your skill even sharper.

The best pictures I believe are still at your backyard. Steve McCurry also kept going back to the same places over the years as well.

If you feel discourage, pick up camera and go out to shoot more. Look at the competitors in your area, look at Alamy Measures to help you plan a step ahead. Do a smart keyword planning for a particular subject.

I lived in Singapore, land is scarcity, I really have to squeeze my brain juice, I try to shoot differently from my competitors, I look for something really different than what's already shown out there, a different type of genre or topic as well. Living in a tropical, high humidity climate - going out to the sun for long hours is too painful, skin gets burn, sweat way too much that may leads to dehydration or even heat stroke. It is what it is and i have to make adjustment to make it work for me.

18th August and just one pretty UK landscape sale for 5 bucks. That is very weak! Several zooms for images for which I seem to have about the only examples and they usually sell so they may pick things up for me, but it's some time since I've had a good looking set of sales. Gardening is more rewarding these days

Thanks for your input @rickygui. I was just grumbling as I was getting more and more sales, then they just seemed to stop, but I will keep at it and see what happens.
