cheap as chips - page rates

Recommended Posts

Sale just popped up on my dashboard for $ 8.76  for IMAGE SIZE ONE PAGE!!

Yes that's $3.50 to me.

Country: United Kingdom
Usage: Editorial
Media: Magazine - print, digital and electronic
Print run: up to 500,000
Placement: Inside
Image Size: 1 page
Start: 01 February 2022
Duration: In perpetuity Any placement: Inside or cover.

I have a lot of cycling content, so often magazines will contact me directly for an image.

My page rate is £150, there is never any haggling and the magazines pay it by the end of the month.

So why is Alamy giving away images at such a low rate?

Yes the publisher may well have a bulk deal but there does seem to be a massive difference.

Is Alamy just playing the numbers game despite the market being willing to pay more?

And another one, arrived for me today. Exactly the same terms as Steve and Sally, above.

I’m wondering if the size is ambiguously worded.

Also one of mine. Just taking us as a small percentage of the likely numbers of contributors who would be included in this package, then if they were all a full page the publication would be a cycling War and Peace.

Strange times, I too had three of those $8.76 licences yesterday!  To be fair chips are more expensive these days in London. We are going to have to come up with another descriptor!

Some times I wish we got the price of a bag of chips!

I was thinking the same thing. Some of my recent sales have been "cheaper than chips". 🙄

Mind you, I did have a couple of decent ones earlier in the month.

I think the $8.76 sales might be an image package. That magic number kinda rings a bell.

Not really. One can't afford to indulge in such luxuries these days. 🙃

I got the last portion of the evening once- I think it saved him fryer cleaning time. There must have been most of a kilo in a cone the size of a wizard's hat.

I had a few of these $8.76 and $8.75 sales. The image subjects range from plants and gardens to record covers and boats, so I think it must be someone like Magazines Direct that sells a few hundred different magazines.
