Photoshop 2020 Bicubic

Recommended Posts

When wanting to change an image file size in Photoshop 2020, I get a few options on Bicubic  - is it best to use Bicubic Smoother (Enlargement) and Bicubic Sharper (Reduction)? What would Bicubic (Smooth gradients) be used for?

According to Martin Evening, Bicubic (Smooth gradients) is better in terms of image quality if resampling continuous tone images. This is one of the few things I just leave on auto - Bicubic Automatic here as it will choose whichever of enlargement or reduction is appropriate depending on what you are doing. I am always reducing nowadays, almost never upsizing since Alamy stopped requiring 48MB files. Martin Evening recommends Bicubic Sharper for reduction (so same thing as automatic)
