Has anyone else noticed a dramatic drop in sales this year? I have aprox 22k images for sale and the sales levels have dropped back to my 2012 levels. Down to about a third from last years sales.

No, in fact my sales have risen dramatically.  I know I'm a noob having only been here since 2016, but I'm one sale away from last year's total sales.

Currently at 56% of last year's total sales, and 59% of last year's total revenue

I started last year.  In my first 5 months I had 2 sales.  In the 10 months since I have had nothing.  Technically I still do not have enough images to draw conclusions but it is a little disheartening.

Down in volume about 40% and average sale about 10%.

I think that's probably quite normal. I sold one in my first year and none in my second. Since then they've just gone up and up year on year.

Sales volume up 18% over 2018 (1 Jan to 16 Aug). Taking out one high-ticket sale from last year, average license price is nearly double. If that one very lucky license were included, prices are way down. Collection hasn't grown as much as it should have, so comparison is on roughly the same number of images.

OP,  the specialised subject matter of your portfolio is so different, compared to the many generic portfolios here, that most comparisons are going to be meaningless. You can try to judge the general state of business at Alamy, but even that judgement is near impossible based on the evidence of a handful of contributors replying. You really need to be in the business of seeking out other photographers in your particular field and comparing notes (if they will!).

For what it's worth, my very generic portfolio is on course to slightly better last years figures, but there is not much in it and the last two months have been very quiet.

Sales volume well up on last year, though I'm still only in my 4th year, so I expect that will soon plateau. Reached last year's total number of sales in June. Average licence price is slightly down though for the first time.

What can you say.

3 sales so far today. 100 or so more and I might be able to make a living.

Hah.

Just bagged one of those blighters myself. I wonder what I can buy for 47p?

I know a C doesn't owe me much but this is ridiculous.

Joseph is spot on.  There are nearly 170 million images on sale and thousands of images sold every week.  The sales of any one contributor is noise rather than signal.

I despair slightly over these type of questions.  It is “nice” to chat about sales but to try to make any meaningful analysis is statistically pointless.

I suspect that that there is a Prato distribution with 20% of contributors making 80% of sales, but even that is a guess....

It's 0.47 cents. About 38 pence.

You could pop in to Waitrose and buy a Braeburn apple. And have a penny leftover.

☹️

Same here.

Stew them, freeze them, put them in a crumble (with blackberries, free from hedgerows) for winter. Add custard on top. Eat by the fire (burning 'found' logs). Yummm....

No $$ sales required.

I'm at 80% of last year's sales and 86% of revenue. Also currently in mid-year slump, but lots of zooms lately.

The brambles are usually out of sync, these apples won't be ready till October. But the fallers will crumble alright. No room in the freezer so we just eat them- lasted till April once. No 1 son's OH has a horse so she may get a bootful.

There's one tree that will give us a few lbs of sweet ones about now, but you need a boiler suit and machete to get to it so we'll see.

I should take some pictures.

I am on target to meet last year's totals for both volume and revenue.  I hope they can be beat tho!

More sales but slightly less revenue at the half-way point of 2019.  But a small port so only noise in the scheme of things!

If my memory is right you have only recently started shooting news. If you take those sales out how does it now compare with previous years?

I have exceeded last year in terms of sales and income at the of last month ...

No complaint here

Both sales volume and revenue are up for me this year. I do see the occasional "blighter". One sneaked under the door this week as a matter of fact, a distributor sale, which is usually -- but not always -- the case. I try to be philosophical as possible about them. 🤓

You see what having a little moan does?

Just had a quick check before popping up to the Sorrel Horse for a pint or four.

BRBKT4 sold for $270
