I have a client who needs to have around 12000 slides scanned. Not high-end drumscanned but still. Any tips on where to go would be great.

Mitter Bedi Studio in front of the Gateway of India in Mumbai should be able to do it. The studio was founded by photographer Mitter Bedi and is now run by his daughter. You'll find  address and phone nr. on the net.

There was also an interesting discussion on how to copy slides with a DSLR and a macro lens. I can't seem to paste the link for now but its under Alamy Quality Control and Technical Talk. The thread is titles Slide Copying and was started by Liam Bunce on Jan 19th. For 12k slides it may pay your client to invest in the slide copier device (Nikon ES1). I have one and it works a treat.

I used an Indian company called ScanCafe to scan 1800 35mm slides and 4x5 negatives to TIFF.  That was in 2010.   Was pleased with the pricing, quality, communication and speed.    Was able to review the scanned images online and approve them before they shipped CDs (or DVDs) - dont remember.  Perhaps they can deliver in different ways now.   All in all...no issues what so ever.  I see that they are still online.
