  1. I got two zooms!

After a couple of months contributing, I ---no, haven't had a sale, but---have got two zooms. Mom, is that you??? (Haven't figured out how to post images here yet.)
  2. When I read threads about how few zooms turn into sales, I’m confused. A big percent of my zooms turn into sales. Sometimes a certain month is less, but on the whole, zooms bode well for me. Of my last 12 sales, 10 were zoomed. Its harder to evaluate looking at the zooms showing on my page right now because many times the sales take awhile to show up. All I can do is look at my sales and notice the ones that were zoomed. For me, the statements I often read here about how few zooms translate into sales makes me scratch my head. Am I alone here? Betty
  3. CTR & ZOOMS

Hi all again. Do people get to concerned over ctr and zooms? The figures may actually be effected (mainly zooms) i feel due to other alamy members looking for help/inspiration from other members images. May apply to the more successfull members as they would be the ones a newby might check first for ideas. Just a thought. Andy.
  4. Relationship between zooms and sales

Since 1/7/2017 until now I have had 50 zooms and 20 sale but only one of my sales has originated (although I cannot be sure of this as it could be a coincidence) from a zoom. Does this mean that zooms are actually irrelevant? Does it also mean that Alamy is short changing us by including CTR as one of the criteria for ranking? Kevin

  6. Maybe I’m being paranoid. Even though my measures show update of 10/31, it appears to me that zooms are broken again. Not that it’s out of the question that I’ve not had any zooms for a week, but folks, that’s highly unusual for my port. A new set of images that passed and were readied by me yesterday morning before noon, around 10 a.m. or earlier USA time, are not yet searchable. They should be. That time is well before the deadline. I'm sure that many of you are recording zooms, but that doesn’t mean somewhere something is broken for some of us. WHY ME?? Betty
  7. I'm so excited – I just got my seventh view! Okay, okay. All you grizzled and gnarly old togs out there are variously snorting, laughing, yawning, examining your nails, rolling eyes, expressing utter disdain, feigning utter disdain, and throwing rotten veg in this direction. But it's ground breaking stuff for me - seven views! You wait until I get an actual zoom. (Sales, we won't mention) If any other noobs want to pitch in, feel free (first view/sale/zoom/CTR/massive sale/OBE/etc) – oh, and you big guns can as well, but it better be good – Leonardo da Vinci good.
  8. Sale yes, zoom - no....

Sold a photo yesterday which as far as I can see was never zoomed (certainly not in the last six/seven months anyway). Neither has it sold previously, so not a repeat sale. Pleased with the sale, but confused nonetheless. Is this a regular occurrence? Am I just not paying enough attention?
  9. Hi people I know my request isnt new and I've read similar topics and I understand a lot of patience is required. It would really be helpful if I can get some feedback. I've been with Alamy for six months, and have over 100 imagse (I know it isnt much). I know now not to expect a quick sale - but I thought I'd get at least a zoom? I'm not sure where I am going wrong on Alamy. One of the things I'm also struggling at is the "discoverability." When I opt for little but very specific keywords, my discoverability remains poor. But if I populate the keywords using as much relevant information as possible, I can't get a zoom. I know I'll have to have about 1000 plus images to perhaps see a sale, but I need assurance or honest feedback of what I can do to achieve at least a zoom. On the funny side, I've tried to search my images and nothing! But I was pleasantly surprised to be on top of Google's search returns for one photo and was so happy that I'd discovered a niche image. It was for the magnificent Sovre Lighthouse in Estonia, which I was amazed didnt have a single photo from other contributors. I'm back to earth though now, having discovered that I had in fact misspelt the key search term. Turns out it's "Sorve" on not "Sovre". Normal service resumed - I now cant find my once popular image, as it's drowned by others and I desperately want to join their ranks. Anyway, please help. Is it the low volume of images? Is it my keywording? Is it style of photos or poor quality? I look forward to your thoughts and learning from them. Regards Tim
  10. Questions from a noob

Hello everyone, My questions may seem they come from a noob because in reality, they do. I often see a lot of people talking about CTR and Zooms, what are those and where can I check my stats? I have 66 pictures uploaded and on sale (I understand that's nothing), but my question is, how many pictures did you guys have before the first sale popped up? I have less than half of that on other sites and have had a few sales, though not many to be honest. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks everyone. David Edit - I've found out what CTR and Zooms are since creating this post hence I edited the post.
  11. I like to browse the Customer search activity of Alamy measures to identify possible clients interest. Specifically I search for search terms, that yield only a small number of pictures. What about an advanced search for the "All of Alamy" measures, where we could enter ranges for UCO, Sales,Zooms, Views and CTR. That way one could search a specific area of interest and narrow it down to say - terms that sold at least once, resulted in a CTR of x to y%, but yielding only 1 to 99 images. or any other combination. Also the number of search words could be an interesting parameter - ie only results containing Whisky with three or four words in the search term This would help to identify shortages in Alamy's image base within the photographers areas of interest. Any support for this from fellow "Alamists"?
  12. CTR useful considerations

Hi all, i'm a newbie in Alamy but have some skills about the concept of CTR. We all know it's basically a "# of Zooms / # of Views" kind of thing, right? Higher CTRs mean usually more Sales (not a math relationship btw). As all math ratios, the more Views we have the worst CTR we're gonna expect from our pictures. Views are the result of a combination of multiple Keywords and math says the more Keywords the more combinations, so # of Views. for i.e. i had Views for the search term "Miami" alone of pictures i did of a Miami beach gay party which is NOT what i wanted since "Miami" keyword alone DOES NOT full describe my picture, therefore i wrongly addressed a potential buyer to my party image. Someone who looked for "Miami" probably wanted some downtown Miami images or may be Miami skylines, not a private swimming pool party which could have been photographed everywhere. Then looking at this great tool which is "Your Images" or AoA i could easily come to the conclusion i should MINIMIZE the # of Views to increase the CTR and hopefully MAXIMIZE the # of Sales. So, am i right if i say it's better to use a minimal set of keywords to keep low the # of proper combinations? That should reduce consistently our # of Views preventing buyers from the bad thing also known as keyword spamming. What do you think and how do you keyword this way? Thx in advance I'm sorry English is not my mother language...
  13. Hi Folks's, i have a planned trip to shoot wildlife in Africa this coming March. All of my telephotos are Canon L series, for the ease of getting close and distant shots in a hurry from a car without working to cameras and big prime telephotos i was considering the Sigma 150-600 sports Telezoom. Has anybody here used or own this lens and are there any serious problems or downfalls? my biggest concern is lack of sharpness. I will be very happy to know of your experiences before shelving out €2000. Thanks everybody, Paul.
  14. We all obsess about our AlamyRank and how many views/zooms we get (some of us like myself check daily). Looking back through my licensed image history, it appears that the majority of the images I've licensed that were used in newspapers (or where the sales revenue amount is indicative of the newspaper scheme prices) were not recorded as a zoom. We know that not all of Alamy's customers have accounts that register as a zoom. We also know that sales improve rank greater than zooms.....but initially, do those who supply "creative images" (images created with a slant toward the commercial market - I am not referencing the "creative" Alamy category) over "editorial newsworthy" images (images more indicative of being used by a news outlet) at an AlamyRank disadvantage? ***note that Alamy Live News is not included in the newspaper scheme Thoughts?
  15. Hi everyone, The release of the full page comp (zoom) introduced a bug which meant that not all customer searches, views and zooms were being recorded correctly in the Alamy measures database. The issue has now been resolved and the missing data has been added to the database. The numbers for views and zooms are now showing similar levels to before the full page comp release and the Click Through Rates are also looking healthy again. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, it took a while to exactly pinpoint the problems and reprocess the data. A couple of notes: 1 - this affected everyone, so your ranking will not be affected 2 - zooms and purchases were still happening as normal, it was only measures that wasn't recording the data correctly for a short time By our last count, there was at least 5 separate threads on this issue in the forum so we'll be locking them down now as the issue has been resolved. Cheers Alamy
  16. When checking myAlamy just now for October 20, I saw on the graph I had a new zoom. However when I checked my most recent views/zooms to see which image it was, no zooms were reported. Changing the dates I figured out the zoom was from October 9. It wasn't there last time I looked last week, and I don't get that many zooms with my small port, so I notice when I do get one. Has anyone else had a zoom reported a while after it happened? Maria
  17. Re Rank? or a bad month for Zooms?

Has there been a re-rank recently, or is it, that I am having a bad month? The number of views on my images is about normal, but the number of zooms has been almost zero this month, consequently my CRT is way down on the Alamy average! A bad month, a re-rank, or both?
  18. Your Zooms?

I wonder whether anyone can explain whether this is correct or not? For a few months I have had zero zooms....ok, I say, no-one has been interested in my `historical' uploads...I regularly look at `your images' and today I had an increase in `your views' but zero zooms. Interested in which images people are looking at, when I delve deeper, I find that there have been a number of views on my recent uploads (within the last month). Still with me? The highest `your views' were for the recent upload (17 views) and `your images' shows 4 zooms....but the overall count for the current month shows 0 zooms. How can this be? Confused? or what?
  19. Zooooom!

A bit of Friday navel-gazing before heading out to actually act on recent searches and get some more pictures up. Looking at my figures for Zooms/Sales in AlamyMeasures, I have had ~40 zooms in the last 5 months (of which, 6 were zoomed and/or viewed by reference # - some more than once), yet I have only had 2 sales. The zooms are spread fairly evenly across each of the last 5 moths, BTW. I know that many say that most of their sales come from images which haven't been zoomed, but I would have thought that he ratio would have been a little better? So... How does your zooms:sales ratio compare? Am I due a sudden rush of sales a month (or three) down the line or should I get the deposit back for the Maserati now? Should I spend more time behind the lens and less time looking at stats which probably mean close to b***er all?! Any comments (however flippant - or serious) welcome - it is a Friday, after all. Have a good weekend!
  20. Hi all As a relative newcomer to the library I am interested as to whether you track the activity on your own images.?..Do you just rely on the My Alamy "your images" or do you use your own tecniques?
  21. Hi everyone. I am relatively new here. I joined around April this year. After a few weeks I had my first sale for a total of $134, and since then nothing. I have also noticed that the amount of zooms I am getting is very low. This month so far 0! For you more experienced contributors, what am I doing wrong? It may also be nothing, but I would really appreciate some advice. http://www.alamy.com/stock-photography/C2D9A136-7CF6-4E3E-916A-A8BFE487D575/Stephen%20Allen.html Thanks for your help, I think I need all I can get Steve
  22. Sales to zooms ratio

Just had a look at my year-to-date figure for sales v zooms. No convoluted scientific reasoning behind it, just curious and was wondering how others compare. Since January 1, I'm getting roughly one sale for every four zooms (total zooms divided by total sales). Anyone else getting anything similar? (Don't know whether one in four is particularly good or bad by the way).
