  1. The British Press Photographers Association (BPPA) is offering members and non-members the chance to take part in a series of half day workshops which will be focused on making the most of Camera Bits software to select , caption and send your images out to the picture desks in a fast and efficient way using Photo Mechanic. If you shoot Live News this will be a very useful workshop (in London)... take a look at details and registration here...
  2. There are regularly posts questioning the use of the iPad , workflow and stock/news on here so here is my latest blog on the subject for those interested,,,, http://julieedwards-x.blog/2018/06/22/ipad-workflow-again-ios11-shuttersnitch/
  3. Hi there, I am trying to set up for an efficient workflow for uploading Live News images in the field. I am shooting with Nikon D850 and don't want to carry a laptop around, it should all be possible with my Android smartphone in theory. I've just discovered Nikon's IPTC Preset Manager software doesn't work on D850 (why Nikon, why?) as that works nicely on D5s. I've tried the Press IPTC Android app but it doesn't work properly on HTC U11 (problem with the way directories are set), I've attempted to contact their support but the project appears dead (website gone and emails bounce back). MoPhoto is no longer available in the Play store and also appears to be dead. Snapbridge does not offer the complete set of fields to meet Alamy requirements for Live News upload. I have Lightroom on Android and that seems to allow entering of IPTC but it's fiddly with small text boxes (the photo import option only has the copyright field). Once finished I've used AndFTP to upload to Alamy. Can anyone recommend anything else for my situation? Any help much appreciated. Cheers all.
  4. Hi I returned to Alamy after a long long break, with the intention to regularly upload more images. I measured the average time it takes me to keyword my images and it is approx 3 minutes. With say 50 images this will be 150 min (over two hours). This is probably my entire "spare" time in a week... My question is, how do you streamline the keywording process? i looked at some people here, with over 50k images, surely they dont spend half of their life keywording each submission? Thank you
  5. Looking at LR catalog, i noticed a backlog of about 200,000 pics since 2004 , a quarter suitable for Alamy. My workflow is to select a small portion of each folder and upload to Alamy. The idea behind that is to diversify uploading...as soon as i uploaded enough different subjects i come back to previously managed folders and find new files to upload. Making this process, my priority are those files i consider belonging to topics more sellable. How do you guys proceed? Did you end processing your backlog and upload newer shots or you have my same "issue" with many files?
  6. Hallo, I think there is something wrong or broken here: HTH! :-)
  7. Hello I am a new contributor to Alamy and wondered if anyone could recommend a suitable workflow to prepare my pictures to pass the required Alamy QC. I shoot RAW files using a Canon 6D. Then do all my post processing in Lightroom. Richard
  8. Want to use your iPad more whilst out and about? This is how I do it... https://jexphotography.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/as-a-press-photographer-i-need-to-be-able-to-send-images-to-the-paper-as-fast-as-possible-mostly-even-as-the-news-item-event-is-ongoing-when-working-with-an-ipad-i-have-basically-2-different-work/
  9. Hello, I just joined as an Alamy member last week. I need a little advise from people with more experience in the stock industry. I find my progress maddeningly slow. I was approved and I've begun the submission process. My submissions remain small as I'm still worried about failing and having them all rejected. So every other day or so I get a batch approved then upload another batch. In the meantime of joined 3 other agencies and am uploading while I wait for Alamy's next approval. All the other agencies move with the same sloweness and keeping track or which agencies got which photos and have they been key worded and uploaded is really confusing. I'm wondering if I should stick to one agency at a time, upload the bulk of my images, once I'm caught up, then move onto the next agency, load the library and get caught up. For those of you that belong to multiple agencies, how did you do it? Did you upload your collections all at the same time? or one at a time? When did you start uploading larger batches to Alamy? How long did it take you to feel comfortable doing that? Sorry if this is kind of a broad question. Just a bit frustrated with it right now and looking to see how others manage their workflow.
  10. Quick question, I'm working on my first upload after the initial approval stage. I uploaded ten photos "assets" After the upload they seem to disappear. I'm not sure whether I should be able to work on them right away, or that I can't see them until they are approved? I can't see the uploads in any que or any specific location...For lack of a better word they seem to disappear after uploading...Sorry for the "dumb" question. But I'm having a hard time understanding the workflow.
  11. What Alamy stock (NOT NEWS) keyword fields ("Caption," "Essential Keywords," "Main Keywords," "Comprehensive Keywords") correspond to the IPTC categories, such as "Headline," "Description," "Keywords"? Is there any way to enter the IPTC data to match EXACTLY Alamy's way of breaking down the keywords? I would like to be able to upload and already have ALL the fields filled without having to shift them around. If it is relevant, I am using Photoshop Elements 9. I'm sure this has already been covered, but I searched and searched for an answer and couldn't find it. Thank you!!
