A strange situatiom popped up yesterday... I received a direct message from a would-be image buyer in S.E. Asia. He had searched online to find a point of contact for me, as he wanted to negotiate an indefinite term of use for a rights-managed image, rather than Alamy's max. 5 year term. The image in question is a portrait of a high-ranking Tibetan Buddhist lama (yes, really) taken in India 3 years ago. Apparently this lama has a following in neighbouring countries and his followers hoped to print and display the image in perpetuity at their temple or meeting place.

After reading through the Forum the last couple of days (yes the trust is gone!), I saw a lot of mentioning that personal use was tied up with distribution sales. So when one would restrict ones images for PU, one would also loose the distribution sales... Not true! I asked MS yesterday and they confirmed that this is no longer the case, so one can easily restrict all images from PU now without loosing the distribution sales. <quote> Hi Arthur, Restricting your images for personal use no longer opts your images out of the distribution pool. The distributors can cho

Does anyone else find that a lot of their images sold for "Personal use, Personal prints, cards and gifts, or reference for artists" are purchased and then refunded a few weeks later ? I find it hard to believe that these very high resolution photos are regularly downloaded for small amounts of money, refunded and then never used. What are other member's experiences ?

I had been offline for a few weeks. I uploaded some images. The images passed the QC and I started keywording. I noticed that, in optional section, there is now a tick box for 'Don't sell for Personal Use....' . Does it mean that now I can opt out Personal Use 'image by image' basis even if I still subscribe to Distributor Sale? Sung

So I opted out of personal use so that Alamy would not offer prints of my work and yet I click on one of my images for sale and i see ... What are your thoughts? Is it not available as an option when you get through to the order?

I just noticed early this morning that Alamy Prints is now live on some of my pages. Prices range from $14.99 USD for an 8x10 inches to U$ 79.99 USD for 54 x 26 inches. Images where I've restricted Personal Use don't have the red Print button. Any thoughts?

Satisfied customers are great. We all need them. But this one ... crafty, to say the least. Got a personal use sale for $ 11.80 on Friday. Then I got another personal use sale on Saturday from the same series of images for $ 9.44. Is someone just switching currencies to make sure they get the best deal?

If a contributor sets any of the 4 NEW restrictions for an image, will that image be available ONLY on Alamy? 1) At least one of Alamy's major partner sites allows Editorial Use Only of its images. That restriction appears in red text next to each of its images here. Will Alamy now make its images that are available for 'Editorial Use only' available on partner sites, (with accompanying statement it's for Editorial Use Only)? 2) If I restrict Personal Use for all my images, does that mean none of my images will be available through Alamy's Partner sites? Thanks - Ann

Am I the only one struggling when I have not subscribed to either novelty or newspaper schemes and have the following showing up in sales: Usage: Personal use, Personal prints, cards and gifts. Non-commercial use only, not for resale. Media: Non-commercial, one time, personal/home use Start: 30 June 2016 End: 30 June 2021 Fee $10.74 gross How can any rationale commercial operation provide a license for one time personal / home use (for which there is no way of tracking its actual use) that has a lifespan of five years, also if for personal ONE time use, why are Cards and gifts shown i

Here's a new one on me. Four $15 sales, two yesterday, two today: Country: Illinois Usage: Personal Use Media: Non-commercial, one time, personal/home use Start: 13 December 2014 End: 13 December 2019 Originally News Feed images. I've never had sales post on a weekend, but I have a feeling these were credit card sales and the customer(s) is/are in the photos and must have stumbled across them. Or it's something I've not thought of. It was a polar plunge for charity. Luckily for them it was a rather mild winter day.
