  1. Hello All, I am new here. I have recently passed QC test for alamy and uploaded some pics and submit. Can anyone tell me how many images should be there in the port to get the very first sale on alamy. How much we will get paid for one image here? Thanks in Advance,
  2. I tried to piggyback onto an older thread but that didn't really work, so here's my query regarding upgrading my computer to deal with the 42MP Sony RAW files and the latest versions of LR & PS CC. I have a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina, 512GB SSD with an Intel i7 processor and 8GB RAM (not upgradeable) and a late 2011 iMac (128GB SSD & 1TB HD), with an Intel i5 (I think) and 4GB RAM upgradeable to 16GB. My iMac is still working well enough, though it's slow, but my MacBook Pro is just limping along. I can't replace them both at once so I am going to replace that laptop since using one on my lap is easier on my neck and back than sitting at a desk with my iMac. I also travel fairly often and I like to be able to work at a local coffee shop for a change of scene. I'm headed to the Apple Store to look at laptops tonight - I've done some research online and they cost nearly twice as much as I thought they would (hopefully the deals available as an ASMP member through their vendors will help) but I really want to see them in action first. I didn't want to succumb to the Black Friday/Cyber Monday madness, but wanted to give it some thought. It's a huge purchase. Probably close to $4,000! (I was thinking $2,300) Hoping if I purchase a new maxed out MacBook Pro with 32GBRAM and a fast processor, it will last me at least another 5 years (or more I hope). I'll keep my iMac since I can add RAM and get a monitor when it dies on me. No way am I buying two computers again, especially since the newest generation of MacBook Pros are nearly as powerful. For those of you with newish Macs, any suggestions on what to look for? Is the upgrade to 32GB RAM rather than 16GB worth the difference, especially as a way to future proof it? I'd love to get a 13" since it weighs a pound less but the processing power does not seem like it will be enough to replace a desktop especially down the line. I hear the 6-core i9's run hot but even my current i7 runs hot - I think that is just a function of these machines. The 13" is a perfect size for travel but the real estate is small for even reviewing photos if it is going to be my main computer - so going back to a 15", even if it weighs more, has other benefits besides speed. So - I'm thinking of getting a 15" with an i9 processor and 32MB RAM and a 2 or 4TB SSD drive, so I can use it on my lap without the need to keep it attached to my backup drive all the time. I have super fast internet but using a networked drive is a non-starter with my lightroom catalog and defeats the purpose of having an SSD drive. At night, I can put it on my desk and back it up to my two large hard drives. What are your thoughts? I have a Sony a7rii - 42MP and an Olympus OM-D 1 - 16MP but with the latest update it lets you stitch a ton of photos together - something my current computers aren't up for. I don't see going beyond the 42MP Sony and over the next five years plan to buy more lenses for both of my mirrorless cameras, so those needs shouldn't change, although I may dabble in video too - not sure. I just bought a new thunderbolt 2/USB-3 6TB G-Tech drive to replace a 4TB drive as my main photo library early last year (which gets backed up to a thunderbolt 1 RAID array and various firewire and usb-3 hard drives) and I know that I will need all kinds of pricey adapters to use with the new laptop. It's part of what kept me from upgrading earlier but I just feel that my current setup is keeping me from working efficiently and I worry every time I see that beach ball of death, babying this thing along as much as I can. Right now I feel stymied since working on my files is so very slow, especially with the latest upgrades to PS and LR. I also constantly find the 512GB SSD filling up and it drives me crazy - the idea of a laptop with enough room to carry around a good chunk of my portfolio no matter where I am is appealing. With my iMac, the 1 TB additional hard drive also fills up too fast. I work on large layered files a lot and also kept so many uncompressed tiffs - many of which I finally deleted just to pare things down. I didn't realize until some time last year that I could losslessly compress the tiff files using zip compression, so I have been going back through them as time permits. I have many old files that need to be worked on and many new ones on my current SD cards, so having a large hard drive on my laptop is worth the cost to me. I find wires attached to my laptop defeat the comfort of working on it. Wim - I saw what you said about Eizo monitors in the "laptop or desktop" thread and I will check them out assuming that they work with Macs and are available here in the US. Thanks again for any advice.

  6. Hello! I'm new here. I live in New Roads, La, love photography, filmmaking, and hiking. I just broke my leg so I haven't been able to pursue stock photography as actively recently. So far, I have been impressed with the quality of material on this forum, keep up the good work y'all!
  7. Hi Everyone. I'm not new to Alamy (I've been contributing for a while), but just joined the forums.
  8. Hi everyone. I didn't see (until too late) that you only need to submit 3 images for testing now on Alamy. I had submitted 8 images, and because some sites would like 10, I submitted 4 more. Then I got my QC result back saying 3 things-- one image was soft or lacking definition, digital camera was not suitable for Alamy (though it is the same camera I used for the other 11 photos) and Number of images listed on that photo in the batch of 8. The other 7 and the 4 from the 2nd batch all said, we need all 3 images to pass, this image will pass if resubmitted, but check images with a failure reason. If only that had come back a little more quickly before I submitted 4 instead of 3... So, now it says my account is Locked for uploads for 10 days?! So I can't get approved for 10 days because all my images were fine in the 2nd batch but I sent one too many for the system or person (?) that does the reviews??? Just wondering if there is anyone I can talk to, in case they can lift the freeze so I can resubmit any 3 images that were fine, without having to wait 10 days. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Crystalheartpix
  9. Hello guys, I'm a 24 year old male student from cologne and just started to upload some pictures to Alamy. About 1 1/2 years ago I startet uploading some pictures I took with my smartphone to a german app called "Eyeem". Since then I uploaded about 500 random pictures without really thinking about my compositions and tags. If pictures pass the Quality-Chheck they are selected for a premium collection wich is accessable for Getty-Buyers. About 113 Pictures made it throug and earned me a total of 250 dollar over the last year. I now started to buy several photobooks and consumed a lot of online courses to step up my photography game (also switched from my Smartphone to Fuji X-E1). I'm also reading a lot in this forum to get an idea of what it takes to sell on Alamy. I now started to upload my first pictures. I really like alamy because of a it's low number of rejections and the community. I couldn't find any other stock plattform with such a nice and large community where everyone is welcome. I figured out that Alamy is mainly a platform to sale editorial pictures. I really like this idea and would like to start capturing editorial topics, but I'm not sure if Alamy is the right place to sell editorials from germany. So i would like to ask, if anyone of you has some experience with this topic or if you would advice me to upload to a german editorial stock agency instead. Stephen
  10. Hi! I've been on Alamy for only three months with about 60 approved images. No sales yet and I'm wondering if I'm missing a step or doing something wrong. Is there any way to generate more sales? Or is it sheer volume and I just need to upload a lot more images? I'd appreciate any suggestions for selling some stuff! Thanks!
  11. Hi there, this is Giogionny! I'm really new to this kind of system, so I will probably ask many questions to all of you! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be here and for the advices you will be giving me! Have a great day!
  12. Hello. New to Alamy for about a year, but just recently really started uploading. So far I haven't had anything flagged in QC which is nice since I'm reading a lot of that on here. I sell mainly lifestyle images. So far no sales but I hardly have anything in there compared to others. I'm currently uploading more. Will be reading more of this forum since I finally discovered it!

  16. Hello. My name is Johannes Oehl and I am a photographer living near Stuttgart, Germany. I love to travel and shoot photos! I am married since more than 25 years and have two children. Since my youth I am shooting photos. I used very first money for buying a Canon AE-1 (analog for sure). Since some years I am using digital still cameras. Currently I own a Nikon D800 and a Sony Alpha 7r II. Coming from macro photography, I discovered landscape- and architecture-photography. Since a few years I am also doing portraits. I have uploaded some photos and had to learn that a the rule DSLR-photo is a hard rule, because I'm frozen now. You can visit in the meantime my webpage www.jZoom.de Regards, Johannes
  17. I started to upload images here at the end of last year. I realised soon it is difficult to sell images on Alamy with little portfolios. So i had only few hope at first. Now I had surprised and happy for my first two sales.Today I am happy to say hello to all of you and hope to have an happy future here. If you want, you can also view at my portfolio and make comments or suggestions.
  18. Just saying Hello. This is my first post. From what I have read briefly of the organisation it drives me to want to continue. Hence my reason for reaching here even without a submission of photos.
  19. Alamy, please post new 'Manage Images' general info - including your video - in a place contributors can find easily. (While I was taking tour of new Manage Images, I prematurely closed area with 'View Video' link. Now I have questions, but can't locate that video.) Your new Manage Images certainly looks promising. Thanks - Ann
  20. If a contributor sets any of the 4 NEW restrictions for an image, will that image be available ONLY on Alamy? 1) At least one of Alamy's major partner sites allows Editorial Use Only of its images. That restriction appears in red text next to each of its images here. Will Alamy now make its images that are available for 'Editorial Use only' available on partner sites, (with accompanying statement it's for Editorial Use Only)? 2) If I restrict Personal Use for all my images, does that mean none of my images will be available through Alamy's Partner sites? Thanks - Ann
  21. Hello everyone! After a (very) long hiatus, I've started taking photos seriously again and thought I would join this community. So, hi! I'm not really looking to make major bank on Alamy but it would be nice to pull in some money to go towards new kit. I feel very out of the loop!

  24. Hi to everyone. I have just submitted my first 4 images and am waiting for the alamy team to give me the yea or nay. Looking forward to learning the lay of the land in Alamy and the approval process. I do submit to several other stock agencies and I tend to focus on studio work but not of people. Take care Diana
