  1. Good morning, dear forum members. Since my iPhone X supports RAW, I only use the Lightroom CC App to shoot and edit my pictures. The results after saving edited RAWS as JPEGs are incomparably better. 100% crop shows details I could never achieve by shooting JPEGs directly. Does anyone of you upload iPhone pictures to Alamy and if yes, is this a problem for QC? 2. I have the dubious task next week of explaining image formats (jpg, tiff, raw) to a group of non-photographers (OK don't ask!). So I did some prep, and came unstuck in the detail. I'd always assumed that for raw files a rule of thumb that the pixel dimensions (width by height) times 3 (red, green, blue) would give a reasonable approximation to the filesize. But this simply isn't true. For example a 5472 by 3448 image (Canon Raw (Cr2)) only occupies 23,300 Kbytes on disk. I've played around with 8, 12,14 pixel depth, and understand that 1K is 1024 bytes, but
  3. I would value some input on the shooting format my fellow contributors use. I currently shoot everything in RAW format with almost all camera with little or no in camera processing etc. This means I must must edit every image before submission etc and this makes for a very laborious and time consuming process. I have very recently been looking at samples of a friends portfolio shot with a quality Lumix compact camera in JPEG format and his results are very impressive indeed even without much post shoot processing. This holds good even for images printed on large canvasses and on display
  4. Is this genuine? http://petapixel.com/2015/11/18/reuters-issues-a-worldwide-ban-on-raw-photos/ if yes, then is Alamy likely to be following suit, particularly in the news uploads? I see little difference, except a possible drop in quality...you can `process' in jpeg too.
  5. Hi Guys, I love this forum and Your professionalism so I'd like to ask You about converting Raw files in Raw File Converter by SILKYPIX because I'd just swaped my C50d and 50-200+Sigma 18-35 lenses to brand new Fuji x100T and be grateful to help me to convert Raw files properly and pass QC. You wonder why and what was the reason I did it..so..beacause of mirrorless body/small dimensions and art films filters. Maybe it was a bad decision but my intuition tell me..You know;-) Any tutorial welcome.. cheers, Artur
  6. Do any of you snappers covert your RAW files to DNG and how have you been getting on with it? I've been getting the odd CR2 file corrupting years or months after being saved to a hard drive and I believe DNG format may help prevent this as well as being more future proof and more compact (the .xmp data is stored in the .dng file and not as a separate file). Here is the article I read: http://photographyconcentrate.com/should-you-covert-dng/
  7. Hello, I'm Mike. I have a number of .JPGs I'd like to use for my initial upload, but they fall well foul of the requirements on sharpening. If I track down the original .RAW to rework the images, will the in-camera sharpening have done the dirty deed to the extent that they are also affected? It's my understanding that .RAWs have bipassed the process, therefore this will be possible... Advice gratefully received.
  8. Hello everyone, What are the experiences with the Sigma DP2 Merrill camera on Alamy? Problems with QC? I intend to use Sigma in RAW mode, ISO 100-200 .. Graksi
  9. Hi I just noticed the last couple of batches of files I have uploaded have the date field populated with the wrong date. The date on my camera is set correctly and both the RAW and converted JPEG files are showing the correct date in the properties in Windows Explorer. But when files clear QC and are ready to keyword the automatically filled DATE field always shows 31 12 2013. I am using Lightroom 5.3 for conversion from RAW to JPEG. I have looked through various dialogue boxes in Lightroom and as far as I am aware nothing is amiss with the export settings. Anyone else had this problem?
