  1. Last night right after I completed working on my portfolio on this site, the strangest and scariest thing happened to me in the realm of computers. I was on a Webpage, not Alamy, when my computer screen went black. I could see the arrow (cursor) but that was it. I could also hear from my 9 year old Mac Pro tower a lot of hard drive noises. It sounded furious. I must have stared at the screen for a good two minutes, thinking only that I just lost my old gal's hard drive for good. I have kind of been expecting it anyway and I was almost ready to say a little prayer over her when
  2. What a strange day!, Images won't upload to Alamy and there isn't any topic on FTP on this forum?? Can anyone advise for simple to use FTP app for Mac? Have 100's of images to upload but seems like uploading via dashboard isn't working and am stuck with firs image for the last 2 hours 😡 Reloaded many times but still no luck. For a test I uploaded x100 large file to youtube and is all looking good, but Alamy page is not able to upload.. My image files are between 5-15 mb only and is over 100 images... What is the best way to upload many files at ones on to
  3. Following advice from helpful photographers on Alamy forum. (Previous threadhttps://discussion.alamy.com/topic/10382-photoshop-cs6-nik-collection-high-sierra/?tab=comments#comment-185792) Slowly I carried out what I had to do before I am ready to update to OS High Sierra as below. (I am currently running OS Sierra.) I purchased a SSD external drive. I formatted the external drive for iMac. I installed 'macOS Sierra' on this external drive. I went to through usual set up process. I reiterate that the only reason why I am doing this is
  4. So glad I discovered this. I've been told by many in the forum to check my photos for sharpness at 200% on a Retina Display screen and have been doing so for some years now on my MacBook Pro when I am out and not able to use my iMac which has a regular screen, since the Retina Display screen makes everything appear so sharp. No more! I was toodling around on Adobe's site and came across this method for making the display on your Retina Screen emulate a regular screen in Photoshop, which means I get a better sense of how sharp an image really is, whether I may want to downsize sligh
  5. I tried to piggyback onto an older thread but that didn't really work, so here's my query regarding upgrading my computer to deal with the 42MP Sony RAW files and the latest versions of LR & PS CC. I have a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina, 512GB SSD with an Intel i7 processor and 8GB RAM (not upgradeable) and a late 2011 iMac (128GB SSD & 1TB HD), with an Intel i5 (I think) and 4GB RAM upgradeable to 16GB. My iMac is still working well enough, though it's slow, but my MacBook Pro is just limping along. I can't replace them both at once so I am going to replace that laptop
  6. I don't know how but this 'Duckukong' is installed in my mac. I want to remove it but 'Drag it into Trash' doesn't work. When I searched this topic, a lot of entries were written by malwaretips.com but in 2015 or 2016. This site also suggest to download software called 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. The more I read any of the search results, the less I am inclined to click anything to download an app to remove it. Is there anyone who recently experienced this Duckokong and removed it successfully? If so, I would be very grateful if you could share
  7. One of the hings I keep toying with is, because I'm fed up with Windows PC's changing and other issues, is changing from PC to MAC, but of course the prices have rocketed and they are all changing to SSD's at the same time & USB is disappearing fast. Most fast PC's are also doing the same with SSD's and going up in price, so going back a year or so I was hoping to get a Apple refurb Mac Book Pro for around £500, but of course the newer models are double (plus in a lot of cases). But as I'm using Windows 7, I don't want to go to 10, or 11 or 12, but the Mac prices are scary, even refurbishe
  8. I've got a mid 2011 27" iMac that is still zipping along nicely - since I do just about everything on my laptop other than work requiring a large monitor. It has 8GB RAM 1333 MHz DDR 3 and a 3.4 GHz i7 Intel processor ADM Radeon HD Graphics Card, and dual hard drives, a 251GB Intel 6 SSD and an Intel 6 1TB HDD. That SDD was pricey at the time but best decision I ever made. Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 24MP camera so much larger RAW files and wondering if I should get two more 4GB RAM cards (or whatever they are called) to fill in the two empty slots and upgrade it to the max 16GB RA
  9. So here I sit, staring at the screen of the new MacBook Pro that arrived last night, facing the decision I've dreaded--whether to sign up for Creative Cloud or switch. I've used Photoshop and Lightroom for many years, I like them plus they do everything I need and more. However I hate the idea of a monthly payment. What are my other options? So far I'm considering: Purchase the new Lightroom 6 but can it be installed standalone? Go with Lightroom 5.5 but I worry there may be compatibility issues with my Sony A7ii raw files. Purchase CS6 standalone but its very expensive and Adobe is go
  10. I am a relatively new Mac user (OSX 10.8). There are many things I still need to learn, so any help would be very much appreciated. In Develop mode in Lightroom 4.4, when I tick Soft Proofing box at the bottom, you can choose a profile on the righthand top, underneath the histogram. If I choose 'Other…', it brings up a list of profiles that I can tick but the one I want is not on the list. I have two questions in this regard. If you go to Macintosh HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Profiles/Recommended, there are profiles that are not included in the above mentioned Lightroom list, how do
  11. Has anyone else with a newer Mac tried using the Dictation software included in Mountain Lion and Maverick operating systems? I just tried it out on key wording and it seems like it might have a lot of potential for simplifying what to me is a very tedious process.
  12. To give some background first before I set off, I've been working in IT for the last 6-7 years. A systems admin for a school so I'm always surrounded by kit. Servers, laptops, pc's tablets, phones, you name it, I'm responsible for it. I used to build my own computers, and up until about 3 years ago I haven't really kept my nose to the ground on what's hot and what's not in the world of personal computing. Business and personal computing are two totally different worlds with regards to PC's specs and desirable equipment. I'm part in charge of a £250k year IT budget so you need to make su
  13. I am a relatively new user for both LR4 and Mac. Today I notice that when I delete (as opposed to remove) files from LR4, these are gone forever whereas if delete files from Bridge, they are moved to Trash. Why is this happening? Is there any setting I need to tick or unstick somewhere within LR4, so that deleted files are moved to Trash in case I need them again? Thanks Sung
  14. I know this question was asked in the old forum but didn't have a chance to print it. So any advice or suggestion will be very much appreciated. I am migrating from PC to Mac (when my order is actually delivered on Monday). Can anyone recommend 3rd party backup softwares/strategies for Mac? I will need to backup the HD of Mac (perhaps on a daily basis with incremental changes) as well as the contents of external HDs (mostly images). Thanks in advance. Sung
