Just wondering if any one else experiences a considerable time delay before Lightroom opens and is ready to use. I am still using LR 6.1.1 and the catalogue size is getting close to 1Gb. It can take up to 4-5 minutes for the program to become available to use. Should I be optimising the catalogue or reducing the size of it? Any help much appreciated. BW, John
I previously asked the forum to check out my pictures & give me tips to make my images better. I received many helpful replies & one of the major problems poiinted out by the professionals was that my images are badly lit or the lighting is flat. The reason for this being I used to click the "Auto adjust brightness & contrast" in PSE 13. So I dumped PSE 13 & switched to lightroom. And I personally found my images manually edited in Lightroom better than those in photoshop. After a long wait for a notification of failed QC, I was able to submit the images edited in lightroom. I personally liked the new images than the old ones but it will be very helpful if any of you could just check out the below differences & tell me if I am doing the editing right. I watched the video recommended by Russell ( ). I hope I am not over-editing my pictures. Also it will be better if you reply soon because I'll have to delete the old ones or Alamy might take action for selling images having similar composition. Wanted to share my experience and caution...Adobe released an update for Lightroom 4. This update is supposed to change the version from 4.4 to 4.4.1 and is to provide additional raw support for new cameras as well as improve the cloning functionality. I tried to update Lightroom 4 and it disappeared. No more shortcuts. I went to the folder where Lightroom 4 resides and tried to launch the application. An error message indicated that a .dll file was missing. I rolled back my computer to reflect programs prior to the update. I rebooted the computer. Once complete, I tried to launch Lightroom - it could not find my image catalog. I tried to launch a backup of my image catalog and it could not launch it. I tried to create a new catalog and Lightroom could not do it. I tried to install Lightroom 4 again and got all the same results. I went to the Adobe website and downloaded the trial version of Lightroom 5. I had no issues installing the software and updating the Lightroom 4 catalog. Given the antics Adobe has been playing with relation to the software license, I'm a little disappointed here. I ended up having to upgrade to Lightroom 5 despite not wanting to. I wanted to pass along the heads up of what *might* happen if you try to apply this update. Cheers.
