  1. Ridiculous sale through Italian sub agent. In October last year I found one of my images on the front page of a national Italian newspaper "La Stampa" which has a print run of over 300,000 copies. Finally, last week the sale was reported: Country: Italy Usage: Editorial Media: Magazine - print, digital and electronic Print run: up to 10,000 Placement: Inside Image Size: 1/4 page Start: 01 October 2014 End: 01 October 2019 Duration: 1 month Price $38.83 After Alamy and the agents cut, it left me with $11.65!!! A front page of a national newspaper for $11.65. I contacted Alamy telling them that the sale had been misreported, and they should get further clarification from the agent. Low and behold, the sale was reported correctly yesterday: Country: Italy Usage: Editorial Media: Newspaper - national Print run: up to 250,000 Placement: Front cover and online Image Size: 1/8 page Start: 30 September 2014 End: 01 October 2014 Print run: 350,000. Price $38.83 The price stayed the same!!!! Its a joke!! In April I will be deselecting Italy from distribution. Recently I stopped shooting News Images for Alamy because of rubbish sales from Italy. My days of collaborating with Alamy are numbered. Time to move on and work on other things. www.gariwilliams.com
  2. Although I'm not that new to Alamy, I'm new to the forum and new to receiving some money from stock sales. I have been sporadic with adding images as I wasn't sure if I had what I classed as newsworthy items, so wasn't sure how it all works and I hadn't seen or looked at the forum. I had three small sales in 2013 and two last year, the last one, which ended up being cancelled, but then bought again, so I received some money in January 2015, as my balance was finally over $75. The same day the money went in my account I had a new sale, (just below the limit) and I also discovered the forum and the "Have you found any Alamy Photographs?", which I didn't understand, until I searched for the photograph that was sold and couldn't find it, I then asked Alamy, who told me the info was in the sale! Whilst trying to find this image on Monday, I found a new image of mine in The Sunday Times, which although it had been zoomed, I wasn't aware it was sold and I still haven't been told by Alamy (and I emailed them Tuesday morning), As I posted my find and mentioned this in the "have you found...?" A number of answers appeared from some of the members. Therefore, I have started this thread so I can glean some more information from members? I understand now that news sales don't always get mentioned, (due to the way the industry works) which isn't a great help, but like this new image that was sold, I have had other images zoomed, could they have been sales? Can this apply in book sales, or other media outlets, or just newspapers? Also, how can I help with "Have you found...?" thread, and if Lynne or Julie Edwards want to tell me more please do, as we are now off the "Have you found...." topic Thanks in advance
  3. I would like to have the ability to search my Sales Summary by Alamy number, my number, or a keyword so I can call up a entire sales history of an individual image, or a set of images. For instance total sales of all my images of Alberta, so I can better plan my travel.
  4. Here's a new one on me. Four $15 sales, two yesterday, two today: Country: Illinois Usage: Personal Use Media: Non-commercial, one time, personal/home use Start: 13 December 2014 End: 13 December 2019 Originally News Feed images. I've never had sales post on a weekend, but I have a feeling these were credit card sales and the customer(s) is/are in the photos and must have stumbled across them. Or it's something I've not thought of. It was a polar plunge for charity. Luckily for them it was a rather mild winter day.
  5. Hi, I'm an occasional low-volume contributor. I think I understand Alamy Measures, but there seems to be an obvious omission. When I see that my photo came up in a search, how can I see the picture that actually sold by somebody else? Surely one of the best ways of improving my sales is to see what actually sells. Is there an option I haven't found yet that shows 'Alamy sales yesterday' or something? If not, why not? Thanks.
  6. A question, especially for those of you who contribute News regularly. Do you see sales through the News channel or does it tend to come later when those news images have moved into the Stock collection? Anyone making consistent news sales? I appreciate that sales may take many weeks to report so it may be difficult to tell except by the licence date and even then it may be a sale from the News Feed as the client will have it on their system, especially newspapers. I realise that everyone is different but I am starting to conscientously monitor my activity to geta sense of what part of my efforts is delivering benefits - still far too early to draw any conclusions. I am now a few weeks in and working hard and full time on my photography again - it is my job (albeit largely uinpaid so far). I am realistic, I do not expect a sudden turnround in my fortunes here on Alamy - I will be grateful if I see positive signs by Christmas. But I am enjoying having the focus; that in itself is a major benefit.
  7. I've been a contributing member since 2007, so I know falling prices have been reality for years now, but I was still surprised to see this 'sale' this morning... Country: Worldwide Usage: Editorial Media: Travel guides -print and/or e-book Print run: Unlimited Placement: Front cover Image Size: 1 page Start: 01 January 2015 End: 01 January 2025 Reused on the spine $ 260.70 By Alamy's calculator, the value of that license should be $3100. 92% off? Ouch.
  8. Hello! I have been a member for about a month and I am slowly uploading images on Alamy. I only have 59 on sale and a few others waiting to be keyworded, but the ones which are already on the website don't seem to be visible. I have 20 views and no zooms. I know this is quite early to ask, but am I doing something wrong? Should I choose other keywords for my images or it simply takes more time to have views and then sales?
  9. Just received the Top 500 email again! I tweeted it. Thanks Alamy!! Kathy Kathy deWitt/Alamy: http://tinyurl.com/n9djvmr
  10. With 707 images available for sale and 17 sales for the whole of 2013 I'm wondering why such a drastic drop in sales for this year?
  11. How was your April? Mine was pretty good, second best month ever for sales (8 + 1 unreported) and best month ever for sales value ($519)! Lowest $32, highest $125, no distributor or newspaper schemes sales. John.
  12. I have a photo for sale on Alamy, that's not on any other stock sites. It's also been published on my blog, and is registered with the U.S. Copyright office. I recently found several cases of unauthorized use of the photo on several web sites recently, in addition to a presumably legitimate use where Alamy is credited. My questions: When images are licensed for use, are the buyers required to post credit to Alamy? My understanding is that sales can take weeks or months to show on our accounts--anyone know if Alamy can provide a more up to date record of sales on request? I've sent a message to Alamy support and got back an automated response suggesting checking on the forum. I'm considering taking legal action against at least one site that has used the image, but obviously don't want to bug someone who has legitimately licensed the image.
  13. How was your March? I had my best month ever for sales (10) and value ($503 gross) I know this is small beer compared to some of you but i'm pleased i'm heading in the right direction! John.
  14. On the seventh of this month I had one of those nice $180 textbooks sales. On the tenth, it sold again, same details, but was, not surprisingly, refunded later that day. This morning it's popped up again. I'm fully expecting the same thing to happen, but fingers crossed. I've had duplicated sales and refunds before, but never twice in the same month. Has this happened to anyone else this month? (Edit - the second was another sale, not a slae, thankfully)
  15. Hi all, I've got my first sale here on Alamy, I hope there will be more This is the photo: Pantheon in Rome: I'm very happy Ciao, Alessandro
  16. This puts the state of stock into context! http://www.theonion.com/articles/study-online-content-creators-outnumber-consumers,35380/ And I am a writer as wall as a photographer - double whammy. At least I don't shoot video.
  17. Has anyone had any sales to Japan recently. They have made up a good percentage of my income over the last couple of years but I haven't had any for a worryingly long time. Have they dried up completely or is it just me?
  18. Hi All, This is not to complain, but rather to better understand what is wrong with my approach to Alamy. I have started to upload back in 2012 and started to sell several shot (some for fod $$) that year. I got confident and increase uploading between 2012 and through the whole 2013. Here is what is frustrating me, the sales declined and became very sporadic, 1 every 2 months? Something like that. I did not get discouraged and keep uploading but now my last 2 batches are waiting for review since December 20something, so no way to speed up and contantly upload.... Am I cursed with Alamy, or my numbers are normal? The whole thing is very frustrating...to bad because I always believed in this agency.... Any tip is much appreciated! Cheers, V.
  19. Does anyone know if Alamy's market share and total annual revenue is growing? This would be useful to know as the number of photos online continues its steady growth. That info was provided until a few years ago, but I suppose it was something they didn't have to offer in the first place. Just wondering if we're shooting to maintain our position or if the pie is growing. Regards Paul
  20. Hi All, just a quick question. I have had around 4 sales appear within the last couple of months and they all appear to have been sold to newspapers or magazines but I have never come across them. Being new to the business I rely a lot on my cuttings and my portfolio to get my work and that is impossible if I don't know were it is going. I wonder if anyone has come across them? Country: United Kingdom Usage: Editorial Media: Newspaper - national Print run: up to 2 million Placement: Inside and online Image Size: 1/4 page Start: 01 October 2013 End: 02 October 2013 Country: United Kingdom Usage: Editorial Media: Newspaper - national Print run: up to 2 million Placement: Inside and online Image Size: 1/4 page Start: 01 September 2013 End: 02 September 2013 Country: United Kingdom Usage: Editorial Media: Magazine - Print only Print run: up to 500,000 Placement: Inside Image Size: 1/2 page Start: 01 December 2013 End: 01 December 2014
  21. When reading your post, some of you have mentioned who purchased your photographs. I asked Alamy how I could find out and maybe get a copy of a brochure or magazine and was told that is not possible, yet I still find some who seem to know. Can you tell me how you find out? Thanks
  22. That time again... I'll start - it was a disaster darling. For the first time since May 2010 I haven't sold a single image in a month. Zooms picked up towards the end and a record number of rolling monthly views, plus an individual daily record where 30% (1133) of my images were viewed on one day! Cleared funds $0.50, say no more. Still I know I have 2 sales to the Daily Mail in the pipeline thanks to the kind souls on here that look for sales, so I can celebrate that! John.
  23. Hi, I registered with Alamy quite along time ago, but I only have a very small collection of uploaded photos and for various reasons I haven't contributed anything at all for the last couple of years. From time to time I've logged in to see if there's been any interest in my photos. And usually I find that there's been very little interest. Anyway last Saturday (19th Oct) I picked up a copy of The Times on the way to the barber's so I had something to read while waiting for my turn. I was quite surprised to see a photos that looked very familiar and the more I looked at it, the more certain I became that it was my photo. But there was no credit at all next to the photo, so I couldn't be sure where they had got it from or that it was actually my photo. So it was straight home from the barber's to check, and after a few minutes there was absolutely no doubt that it was my photo. Next I had to find out where I had uploaded the photo and after a bit of searching I manage to also confirm that the photo is only on sale through Alamy. CPXED1 is an autumn photograph from Alderley Edge in Cheshire and it was used in The Times Weekend supplement to illustrate walk no. 14 in the article "20 best autumn walks". As this is the first time I've seen any of my photos used I am a little bit uncertain about what I should expect to see on Alamy. When I check the activity on my photos I find that my photo was included in a search for "Alderley Edge" and that it was zoomed. However, there is no indication of any sale. As I am certain the photo must have come through Alamy I am little bit puzzled as I would have expected there to be some indication that it had been sold. But so far there is no indication at all of this. So how long does it normally take before sales are registered? I would have thought it would have been pretty instantaneous, but I am perhaps wrong about that? I have looked around a bit and I see that I am also opted in to a special agreement with the UK newspaper industry. Could this possibly explain why there's no indication of any sales at this stage? I think it said that purchases are settled on a monthly basis so I suppose that could mean that any sales will only be registered once the monthly settlement has been done. While I am obviously delighted that my photo has been used and that (hopefully) I'll eventually be paid, I am a little bit upset that there was no credit at all next to it. I suppose this is a quite common issue. Is there any legal requirement for photos to be credited? In any case this has given me a bit of a buzz and a bit of a kick up the backside to get some of the photos I've taken during the last couple of years properly sorted out and uploaded. And hopefully my next sale will come a bit sooner than my first one!
  24. Just found out I had a sale yesterday!! I've never had one reported on a Sunday before. Anybody else ever had a sale reported on a Sunday? John.
