  1. I have been submitting RF images to Alamy and other agencies for past few months... Images that were sold on other agencies ..none of them did on Alamy.. Beginning to wonder if Clients check to see if the same image is available in other agencies for a lesser price. Anyone had such similar experience... I would like to think these are non subscription based clients. The one's who are on the subscription model, may not care if the same image is available elsewhere coz they have already paid a subscription fee and therefore price does not matter.
  2. Dear fellow Alamy contributors! Please allow me to ask some basic questions regarding sales on Alamy. The questions stem from my experience on Alamy being quite limited. My search of this forum was not fruitful, hence my seeking enlightenment in a new post. 1. I have been fortunate enough to collect a few sales. More than half of them did not register as zooms. As was informed, not all sales are zoomed. Can someone please explain the mechanics of such sale? 2. How do I know who bought my photo? From some of the discussions I read on this forum I understood that some of you can tell who the buyer is. How? 3. How do I know if a sale is direct or if it is a distributor sale? And what is the significance of that? Many thanks in advance.
  3. Hi all, today i'm gonna give you a gift since i've read many complaining on this forum about what is selling and what is not. I found this site on a training i just followed. http://research.picworkflow.com/ It's based on micro market analisys (look at the result sites considered) but it's very useful also for Alamy photographers and videomakers (like me) in my opinion since most of us are taking shots of cities and editorials. Try entering "london camden" and you'll find it's a better profitable option than "london bridge"for i.e. As explained on the site any topic with a ranking above 20-25 is sellable for top shots while 100-200 is fine for medium level shots. Hope to have given a really useful tool today... i feel good to have shared this Let's see how many greenies this produces lol
  4. I am new user so I can be totally wrong... I looked at "All of Alamy" stats from last 30 days and took numbers: number of pages with at least one sale: 128 first ten of the biggest sales (sum): 133 Then I took stats from 1 Jul 2016 - 1 Aug 2017 number of pages with at least one sale: 400 first ten of the biggest sales (sum): 213 Looks like a big drop in only one year...
  5. Hi everybody, my Alamy experience started badly with me having only 4 major sales in over one year and now 2 months from the last sale occurred in late May. It's my fault since i've uploaded in the beginning a lot of similars and may be bad keywordered files with the "cream" of having not properly post processed all my images. Most of you all veterans advised me about these things but it seems i'm a bad student My CTR is low but my views are up (few zooms actually) so it seems topics i covered are requested by customers and my CTR is not so bad. What do you suggest me at this point? 1) Delete badly post processed or similar files 2) Improve keywording BEFORE adding new files 3) Add new files caring more about the above points 4) Play with pseudos 5) Start a new account and add new files there I know 2) and 3) i should do by the way but it would be enough without doing 1) , 4) or the worst option 5) ?   6. Personally I would find it useful if there was a field associated with each photo that recorded the number of times that the photo had sold and, ideally, its max, min and average price. That way it would be easier to remove photos that were not selling from each portfolio. :-)
  7. Newbie here! I'm wondering how other abstract artists and illustrators are doing with sales. I'd also love to know your thoughts on keywording.... do you get all 50 in? Are you using non-color color-names like peach? Is still life one keyword or two? I'd welcome advice on keywords. I use Photoshop the most (for repeating patterns as well as abstract compositions), but am starting to think of putting my repeating vectors online too. Is Alamy the right place for this? Is vector illustration selling better than raster? This is the first time I've licensed, and I'm really uncertain of what to expect... relating your experience could help :-) Thanks for your time and input! Kristin ps... how does one get "verified?" Also, I have almost 200 images on Almay, not 15 as my profile shows
  8. Hi, just wondering, admittedly without huge experience in Alamy sales, but... some sales have been showing now for 5 months as not yet cleared. My understanding from the Alamy help pages is that essentially customer was billed but hasn't yet paid for the image. The big question is whether it ever clears, as this depends on customer ever paying up... but mainly, in the meantime is customer already using the image? I have to say I find it bizarre that Alamy can leave something unpaid and photographers waiting almost half a year watching uncleared sales on their dashboard, with zero updates or progress whatsoever. Is this normal or just having bad luck AND Alamy not chasing at all the buyers?
  9. Hi people I know my request isnt new and I've read similar topics and I understand a lot of patience is required. It would really be helpful if I can get some feedback. I've been with Alamy for six months, and have over 100 imagse (I know it isnt much). I know now not to expect a quick sale - but I thought I'd get at least a zoom? I'm not sure where I am going wrong on Alamy. One of the things I'm also struggling at is the "discoverability." When I opt for little but very specific keywords, my discoverability remains poor.But if I populate the keywords using as much relevant information as possible, I can't get a zoom. I know I'll have to have about 1000 plus images to perhaps see a sale, but I need assurance or honest feedback of what I can do to achieve at least a zoom. On the funny side, I've tried to search my images and nothing! But I was pleasantly surprised to be on top of Google's search returns for one photo and was so happy that I'd discovered a niche image. It was for the magnificent Sovre Lighthouse in Estonia, which I was amazed didnt have a single photo from other contributors. I'm back to earth though now, having discovered that I had in fact misspelt the key search term. Turns out it's "Sorve" on not "Sovre". Normal service resumed - I now cant find my once popular image, as it's drowned by others and I desperately want to join their ranks. Anyway, please help. Is it the low volume of images? Is it my keywording? Is it style of photos or poor quality? I look forward to your thoughts and learning from them. Regards Tim
  10. Hey, Everyone ... I Made a Sale On the 9th Of April and Supposedly I Have 88.26$ Of Balance carried forward BUT THAT BALANCE NEVER GO TO CLEARED BALANCE ... So Why All this Period Of Time and the balance never go to clear ... nearly a month have passed ??!! .. Is there a Constant Period Of Time On Alamy For Sales To Be Cleared ? ... I Don't Know as it is my First and Only Sale ??!!
  11. I'm a relatively new user without any sales at the moment. I recently did a search for some of my images using a variety of the tags and supertags (all other fields are filled too) and failed to find my photographs. If I can't find them I can't expect anyone else too. Why are they not discoverable at all?
  12. Just wondering how many of you gave a try to RF instead of RM. I mean, did you try some batch of pictures like RF after a long time of RM? Any increase of revenues?
  13. I've 3500+ images on my port but following many contributor advices i decided to improve my existing images keywording instead of adding new ones. In particular looking at My Images i recently noticed that i've some Views related to the Location .. i mean , just the location keyword itself. For i.e. i've thousand of views for "Mali" which is strange.. I never imagined buyers searching for the country or the city only. In the above example i imagined searches like "Mali school" or "Mali children", from which i actually had views but much fewer than searches for the word "Mali" standalone. Do you also experience such searches? It affects in a bad way my CTR and i wonder if it would be better to associate location with other keywords, removing also the country/city keyword from the caption field. How do you manage these situations?
  14. Since i started uploading to Alamy (1 year yesterday) i was wondering why a buyer should zoom an image. These are some of my conclusions: a) to expand a tiny thumbnail which is poorly visible b to check the final price (useful for RM) c) to buy the image d) to verify which other similar pics a contributor has e) to double check an image before buying it Which other reasons come in mind to you guys? 1 year, i have 2 sales out of 47 zooms so it seems case c) is just 4% of the total reasons
  15. Hi Everyone I have been uploading and selling my portfolio since December. I have over 1500 images in my Alamy port so far. I like everything about the site except that I have not had one sale. I have lots of sales on other stock sites. So I am at a loss as to why none here. Most of my work is nature related and Pacific Northwest related. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks George Cole
  16. Just wondering how many of you are signed up to the Newspaper Scheme? I have been receiving good sales but tiny fees and have just opted out but I'm wondering if the clients will still see the images that are not in the subscription.
  17. We have nearly completed another year of Alamy sales and it is time to reflect, review and learn lessons. This chart I am very happy with : This chart I am not so happy with : Sales increasing nicely year on year, efforts being rewarded, careful keywording resulting in customers finding my images. But all that work, all the hours invested, to end up with a declining revenue stream feels like pedaling backwards on my bike or kayaking up a waterfall. Too many photographers I guess, too many images for customers to choose from, too easy to just use Google Images and grab any image you see without even thinking of consequences, it all drives the price per image in one direction only. But high value sales do still turn up once in a while. I had one $650 sale this year, two sales of £225 and 5 others over $100. When they happen, I am reminded that Alamy is still the right place to be. I had a look at distribution of prices across all my sales this year, here are the results : So about 60% of my sales are in the $20-80 gross price band. I also had a look at the price trend over the last 5 years. As expected, this shows a declining average price, but a RECOVERY in the gross price THIS YEAR. Unfortunately, in my case, the net price has continued its decline this year, probably due to the proportion of distributor sales increasing. See chart below : So since 2012, my average net price has declined by more than 50%, ouch ...... what happened to inflation?? Aren't our prices meant to go up with inflation? Every other business seems to manage it, but not us ;-) I hope this is enlightening, or at least informative, for forum members. If you feel so inclined, please share your own data, but I understand many people won't want to. Who knows what 2017 will bring, the new search algorithm and contributor tools have made all that even harder to predict. I was at the top of page 2 on BHZ, then dropped to page 13, now on page 9. It is too early to say whether views/zooms are adversely affected ... Happy New Year! Marc
  18. On 8th November, 2006 I opened my Alamy account and sent off my first submission - ten years ago today! This has given me the excuse to sift through the decade in terms of sales and content (and yes, I have better things to do): Total sales 844 Best sales volume, 2016 Best selling image, B0CMB3 Best ever net sale, $ 5838.47 (2011) (edited) Worst ever net sale, $0.35 (Mylene Klaas, 2011) Man hours spent on keywording, unknown Number of brand deletion requests (NT, Network Rail, Tate, Olympics etc,), unknown Number of personal deletion requests, 1 Most used keyword (probably), "London" Most frequent territory/usage, "Editorial, Media, Textbook - print and e-book" So for those with a first foot on the ladder, I hope this encourages you!   19. How was your October 2016? Mine was excellent thank you! A best month ever for sales volume with 21, BME for rolling sales for the month (29) and BME for rolling views for the month (10,106) Revenue wasn't too bad at $555 - highest sale $86.04. 1 refund which was rebought at exactly the same price and conditions plus 1 unreported sale. A very happy November bunny! John.
  20. Hello everyone, My questions may seem they come from a noob because in reality, they do. I often see a lot of people talking about CTR and Zooms, what are those and where can I check my stats? I have 66 pictures uploaded and on sale (I understand that's nothing), but my question is, how many pictures did you guys have before the first sale popped up? I have less than half of that on other sites and have had a few sales, though not many to be honest. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks everyone.   21. Hi everyone, I joined Alamy a couple of months ago, and have now got 178 photos uploaded on here. I've very much an amateur rather than professional and I'm obviously not expecting huge sales through this site, but am a little concerned that so far I've only 411 views, and my CTR is 0. I've been careful with key wording, and have read around the forums for general advice, but I was wondering if anyone observed anything specific about my portfolio. I'm about to go on a 9 month trip around the world and plan to take a whole lot more photos! Hi all, Im sure this has been asked 10000 times but was wondering if someone could have a look see what I can do to increase sales and rank or any tips general to help me to improve my rank, would be most appreciated. I do know it takes time and effort and luck really as I only have 500+ images at the moment. Thanks in advance Peter
  23. I've been a contributor for about six years. My total income from Alamy is about $13,500. This year a whopping $243. Since 2012, the slide into oblivion has been accelerating to the point of nearly no action, as yet, I continue to feed the beast. Hasn't bothered me too much because of income from other companies, however, here it's July and with income of $243 it's hardly worth the effort continuing to contribute. I thought the expansion into the US as well as more attention to advertising would make a strong case for staying but this is out of hand now. Is there a consensus about what's happening? Believe me, I'd like to understand the problem. Thanks very much. Ken
  24. I just had two sales show up, with exactly the same descriptors of usage, duration, etc. I was surprised to see that one was priced about half as much as the other. How can the prices be so different if the details are the same for the both of them? Thanks, Maria
  25. I see a lot of people talking about have sold a picture for $100, $200 and so on. I was wondering, how can I sale my pictures for more then only $0,90?
