  1. I just searched the July images found thread and unfortunately didn't see any of mine. The images I subbed were news images from the aftermath of the Dallas police killings. They were in the news feed for two days and then I subbed some more last night. So if they will ever be sold and published, I figured that would be happening immediately. There were about four or five photographers who subbed images from the events that took place here. So I'm wondering has anyone seen any Alamy images from Dallas in any UK papers or via their online versions? Or is it just too early to know? I've searched some and couldn't find any. I've heard that sales reporting sometimes lags behind publication, so hopefully no sales now doesn't mean they didn't happen.
  2. Hello all, I was trying to upload pics to aterras "favorite pictures that you have uploaded may 2016" but can't figure out how to do it. I tried bringing up my media and it said to pick which category to share but none came up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jacob Y.
  3. I have contributed to Alamy almost 10 years now and have well over 15,000 images online. I average a minimum of several image license sales every week of the year. I have been shooting professionally for over 30 years, using digital capture and Adobe Photoshop for almost 15 years, and have never had a digital image rejected for quality reasons by any other stock agent, including Getty, except by Alamy. In recent months I have experienced what I perceive to be inconsistencies in the Quality Control measures. After going years without a QC Failure, I have had two batches of images fail in recent months. The images were captured with a Canon EOS 1DX and Leica M9-P. In both cases I made (from the original files that Failed QC) beautiful 16x20” prints and sent them in to Alamy for further consideration. In both cases Alamy QC said the images were not up to their standards. I completely disagreed with their assessment, but to no avail. I am seriously considering pulling my images from Alamy. The amount of time spent properly preparing & submitting images against the increasingly low fees is not providing a very good return on investment. I am wondering if anyone else is having similar, inconsistent, problems with the quality-control group? Mark Weidman _______________________________ H. 4. Can I offer here in Alamy a BW and Sepia (or Creative) version along with the original Color version? Should I mark both BW and Sepia as Digitally Altered? OTOH, If I already offer here in Alamy the Color (Original) version of an image as RM, can I offer somewhere else the Sepia version of the same image either as RM or RF?

  7. Can you imagine a better place on earth for a picnic? Denali (also known as Mount McKinley) from Reflection Pond - Denali national park in Alaska. And another nice place. For a sunset beer this time… Water bungalows at Tikehau Pearl Beach in French Polynesia.
  8. Although this is Alamy-related, it is more a technical query about Google. The pseudo I use for news pics is Pjrnews. If I type that into a google search for images, nothing comes up. If I ADD 'Alamy', I get lots of results. I would have thought that adding search terms would narrow the results, not bring up new ones. Anyone know why this happens?
  9. Photoshelter users be warned. They have introduced Lattice, a Pinterest type "service" with no watermark protection. It took me barely 2 minutes to grab an unwatermarked 1200 x 800 px image. It is yet another opportunity for image theft. You are opted in by default. If you use PhotoShelter and value you your images I suggest you login immediately and opt out. You might also want to share your view on their Blog. I am now taking a hard look at whether I am going to continue using PhotoShelter to store my images as they clearly are not thinking in terms of protecting professional photographers. I will probably cancel my account as soon as I can download my images (although I do have them on my own machines) and rebuild my web site. I was going to redesign it anyway this just moves it to the top of the list.
  10. Just curious as to how you all mark your images chosen for upload to Alamy, to sort them from the ones you haven't uploaded. Sometimes I may develop several similars from a shoot but end up only uploading a couple of them. Once converted to jpeg I put them in a folder marked "Alamy 200" or whatever number denoting how many uploads I've done. The original folder I'm working from may be named "13-08-06 restaurants". As I work, I also save back a jpeg to the original folder as a jpeg and mark them like this: DSC2044-AL.jpg. The AL lets me know I uploaded this image to Alamy. Then I delete the Tiff. Back before I saved only jpegs to my folders, I saved them in 8 bit (way way back, 16 bit) Tiff format. So I might have Tiffs that I have uploaded alongside Tiffs I didn't use. If I should go back to that folder, The "AL" designation lets me know which images are in my Alamy online portfolio and which are not. Nowadays, since I only save the jpeg back into the folder, I can readily see what I've done. Anything saved in jpeg has been uploaded, any Tiffs have not. Even so, I still mark the jpegs with the "AL" designation. What do you do? Betty
  11. Here is one example of the newspaper as an idea factory. http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/11/18/computer-ai-mastering-dark-matter-of-the-internet-gaining-ability-to-describe-images-with-surprising-accuracy/ Why not make images depicting artificial intelligence now, so that when AI becomes more widespread you will have a competitive advantage? I try to read widely, and not only the newspaper. Where do your image ideas come from? Here is an image about artificial intelligence I made some years ago, after reading a sci-fi novel by William Gibson.
  12. Anyone have experience submitting images to Alamy made with the Phantom Vision II quadcopter's 14 Megapixel camera?
  13. I think a lot of us are still trying to get a handle on what will and won't be accepted for Stockimo, and which Apps will give us the best results. I learn by example so I thought a discussion of actual images and how they are modified might be helpful. If you are willing to share, please show us your successes and failures, both can be instructive, and what apps you used to modify the successful images (you don't have to say exactly which filters you used if you don't want to, just the App). I'll start off with one of my images that was first rejected, and after cropping it square and boosting the contrast and saturation with the Adobe Photoshop App it was accepted and scored 3.0.I tried posting the "before" image to both my Zenfolio portfolio and to Facebook but the image wouldn't drag in. The best I could do is a link. As you can see the difference between passing and failing isn't that much. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=335762966571754&set=a.139987982815921.32435.100004141602133&type=1 Here's the edited image from Adobe Photoshop App
  14. This morning I reached the dizzy milestone of 4000 images in my Alamy portfolio!
  15. I'm doing some spring cleaning, and deleting similars and non-commercial images. However, they are not actually deleted they are in the awaiting deletion category and still show up in searches. Do I need to do something more, or does the deletion process just take some time? Thanks,
