  1. I was cleaning up some old files that had more than 50 keywords now that the new interface has improved, making it seem less daunting, and discovered that it is more of a mess than I had anticipated. Many of my images seem to have most of the keywords doubled, and not because I put a word in singly and then as part of phrase (although that does account for some issues) but instead some of my photos seem to have big swaths of keywords repeated in order. It's as though the system is spamming itself! Being able to copy all, put them into a Pages (Word) document and then clean them up from there helps, but I am quite frustrated that I have to go through all of my images now. I had gone through some when the whole new AIM and tagging started and I don't recall noticing this problem with any of my images them; it seems to me like something changed recently to cause this to happen. And I'm noticing it with newer photos. If had been old ones from the days of the three-part entry method, especially when I was just starting out and thought that more was better, I'd shake my head and understand, but these are files that were keyworded much more sparingly, I even checked corresponding images in Lightroom to be sure. So what's up? Anyone else have this issue? After having gone through all my images when we were told to add quotes to phrases (remember when?), and then having cleaned things up again after that.. .and then spending several hours and day all over again when this whole tagging and supertagging thing started, I had decided that I wasn't going to kill myself by doing it all at once,, but would do some cleanup now and again, not really thinking it was a big deal. However, it seems as though I will have no choice but to review all my images or I will continue to see my views and CTR drop - they have gone off a cliff in the past few months and I'm wondering if this apparent glitch is part of the reason. All of my phrases, which were separated wither by commas or were in quotes, have been split up, so that, for example, images tagged "New England" suddenly have "new" and "England" as two separate supertags, really great for my CTR here in the states. Feeling very frustrated by all this. Really kinda annoyed after being invited to be among the first Reportage photographers, then unceremoniously dropped from Live News, and don't get me started on the new commission. (I am not jumping up and down about the exclusivity button - most of my pix are exclusive here, but I'm not ticking it as I don't plan to put all my eggs in this basket). Yes, rant over but really I'd rather be uploading new work than dealing with all my old images. And btw, that news rant wasn't for nothing. All of my Live News images that I've gone through so far seem to have their keywords doubled, some sort of glitch in the system so it's spamming itself? Weird! Anyone else notice this issue? I searched the forum but didn't see anything about it. I had not noticed it before. Thanks for any clues you might have as to what's going on and how I can fix it other than with countless hours of work. I have ordered a CSV file of my images, but while I use Numbers (Mac's version of Excel) for keeping track of various financial matters, I don't know if it will help me with data entry for my pix since I don't know how to export the data from an Excel spreadsheet. Numbers for Dummies perhaps? Ugh!
  2. I found the following update today in AIM optional tab: - Image sourced from public domain (New) - Only available on Alamy (Old) => Exclusive to Alamy (New)
  3. I am finding that, recently, if I am using my laptop in AIM, and I use a 2 finger scroll on my touchpad to scroll a page up or down, then when I stop scrolling the pointer immediately turns into a drag selection. Pressing Esc does not release it and I have to click in a space between images to release it and get back to a non-dragging pointer. The consequence of this is usually an unintended selection of images which have been thus accidentally dragged over, which accordingly have to be deselected before I can do anything else. This is a very irritating waste of time. I have adjusted the sensitivity of my Synaptics touchpad, but this makes difference. I am using Windows 10 and IE 11. Has anyone else experienced this unwanted behaviour? It always used to be the case that if I stopped scrolling, the cursor was released in the usual way and there was no unintended dragging/selection. This seems to be a recent change. I have not experienced it with any other application, Internet based or otherwise, so I think it is an Alamy issue as far as I can tell. Another thing I am finding annoying is the message that pops up every time you hit the Save button in AIM. It simply gets in the way and the message seems to me to be quite unnecessary (that changes may take up to 48 hours to appear - there is nothing you can do about it anyway, so why keep telling us?). In any event it does not bear repeating every single time the Save button is clicked. Do we really need this as a pop-up at all? If someone at Alamy really does think we do, could they not at least automatically disable it once it has displayed once, or (even better) provide a "do not show this message ever again" option? Graham
  4. At the end of last year, my CTR had sunk to .20 although I had decent sales, zooms and views. This year my zooms and views are only about half of what they were last year. Now, I haven't uploaded anything new this year due to the real world keeping me busy. Yet, my CTR has climbed to .45 and sales and revenue are are slightly above the same point last year. Is this because of the new tag system, where multi word tags are keeping images from showing up in early pages if only one word in the tag matches the search? Has AIM improved the relevancy of the searches, keeping the less likely images farther down where they should be? Jill
  5. A map used to appear once I started adding info in the location field of image manager; lately I haven't seen that. Any recommendations about how specific this should be? For example, is an exact street address ideal? Intersection OK? (ie, Main St. and First St.) Also, is "1234 Main St. Los Angeles California" OK, or do I need to include country?
  6. So I just stumbled across some of my images that I uploaded a while back which I haven't Supertagged. The problem with the current Discoverability is that it is basically an all or nothing deal. Once you get your images online (5 normal tags and a title) there is no difference between that and an image with super tags completed and the extra fields filled in until you get to the Optimised green stage. It would be useful to have an option to search and narrow down in AIM to the images which don't have a full set of Super tags and / or the additional fields completed. As it is now I am in the process of hunting down the images that I think were not Supertagged, which could be 1 or many images.
  7. Hi all, Here's a strange thing that maybe someone else will have come across. Normally for copy and paste I would use CMD + C and CMD + V on my Mac However, in the "Caption" field of AIM, if I want to copy the caption, or even part of it, and paste to another image, I have to right click and then select "copy" from the dropdown. CMD + C doesn't work. In the image where I wasn't to paste it I can go CMD +V and it will paste it in OK Is CMD + C not working for anyone else in the "caption" field?
  8. Regular readers will be have been bored rigid by me regularly banging on (for years now) about the issue of having to count as people all sorts of things which may or may not actually need model releases, but for sure the buyers don't want to see if they search on a particular number of people (they actually want to see these people, probably quite prominent in the image). Being slow of brain I've just solved the conundrum. Having got my little Sony, so having it with me all the time now, I've had a revival in uploading general editorials as I go about my everyday business. So having spent the last few weeks scouring each image to count things like distorted reflections, possible body parts, shadows, out of focus people in posters and wondering whether a particular set of pixels might just be a person that I could try to clone out, I've only just today worked it out. If there aren't any 'readily visible people', don't tick that box (which is optional). The file will show as 'no model release' (which is the default) but will not show any number of people, or even 0 people, so won't annoy buyers. D'uh! Sorry if this has been pointed out before. Some time, I might get time to go back over old images and fix them.
  9. Hi i am looking for a way of keywording photos from my mobile device in the go, essentially accessing alamy AIM from a tablet or phone. This does not work on android device. Would it work on Windows device? Say windows 10 tablet?
  10. Hello all, Is there a way to indicate an "anti-keyword" for an image? That is to say, to set a search term that you have as a part of a keyword and you don't want your image to be find. For example: I have many photos of a place called "La Mola", and everytime some client searches the term "Mola mola" (which is in fact a scientific name of a fish), many of my images appear, penalizing its CTR. The solution for me would be that I could indicate in the AIM that those images don't get searched by "Mola mola", only by "Mola" or "La Mola". Maybe the "anti-keyword" should look like something like "NOT Mola mola". I'm not sure if something like that could be done. Thank you in advance and regards!
  11. Hello all, Is there a way to order images in the AIM in chronological order (date taken, not date submitted to Alamy)? Almost sure there is not... I think it will be very useful to many of us just for setting many common keywords to images made at the same time but submitted to Alamy in different dates (my fault, I know ). Right now If they are submitted quite separated in between submissions is a pain to try to achieve this. A copy-paste function would do the trick too... Thanks and regards
  12. When I use AIM on my 4K monitor and open the window in full screen mode, 50 thumbnails are opened and shown. Because the screen is not entirely filled with thumbnails, the automatic loading of more images does not seem to work. I currently work around this by making the browser window smaller, such that some thumbnails are not shown anymore. As soon as I do this, the automatic loading of more images works again and I can go back to full screen after a couple more thumbnails are loaded. Can AIM be changed to load 100 or 150 thumbnails initially? I believe that this may allow scrolling from start and does not need the workaround. A second issue is that the "Preview images" appear that small that I'd rather call them large thumbnails. Could the preview images on 4K monitors made larger please? (I believe this was already mentioned in another thread, that I fail to find)
  13. Last night I came across a wallpaper site, in Australia, that's offering 880 of my Alamy photos for wall murals. I presume the site http://www.customwallpaper.net.au/ is legitimate, in part, because it says the Alamy watermark will be removed from the final product. Most of these images are unreleased and really shouldn't be offered as Consumer Goods. At the time they were submitted I presumed lack of model releases would prevent them from being sold as Consumer Goods. With all the concern over marking some images "Editorial Use Only" life would be so much easier if we could do a quick search in AIM to find images that either do, or don't have, restrictions and need to be updated.
  14. I keyword and caption in Alamy Image Manager. I quite often click on an image and "zoom in" (i.e. I click the magnifying glass with a '+' symbol) so I get a better view of the image when I'm keywording. Quite often I make typos when writing my caption or keywords so my natural instinct is to press the left/right cursor key to move to the position in the text that I am typing that I want to correct... but in AIM it doesn't move the cursor.. it moves to another zoomed image, to an image I probably haven't even selected to caption/keyword. This is so annoying!!!! If I don't "zoom in" a picture while keywording, pressing the cursor keys has the effect that I would expect... it moves the cursor within the text that I am editing. Please change this behaviour so that hitting the cursor keys actually moves the cursor position in the text and doesn't change the image zoomed.
  15. I've just uploaded a smallish batch. At the end, the web uploader showed "36 of 35 images uploaded". Had to look twice and, after a few head scratches as to where the mysterious extra image may have come from, decided to press finish upload anyway. AIM now shows 35 in QC (there were always just 35) but thought I'd mention it in case it's a tech glitch that causes any issues. In other news - Merry Christmas everyone, have a lovely weekend!

    Tag count

Here's a thought... Occasionly an image is worthy of many tags. In that situation it's easy to exceed the required amount of 50 if say Photoshop Bridge is used. It's not a problem until one discovers a critical tag has inadvertantly been left out. However, before adding that new tag, the number of tags needs to be reduced to 49. So, we just have to blindly delete the less-important tags until that number of tags is reached. It would be helpful if above the tag listing, the number of tags are shown. Currently in the situation outlined above, it merely shows 50/50. If it could be reconfigured to show the actual number of tags eg 55/50 - and better still - reduce accordingly it would very helpful. Thanks George
  17. I've got images on sale but when I click on the caption field it is blank and the red bar comes up to say not on sale. How can that happen? Edit: just looked for the image and it comes up - but with no caption, so it is definitely on sale John.
  18. My latest submission just passed and I noticed that the "Date Taken" field is filled in with random dates, always with an earlier year. The incorrect date carries over to search results. Having that field auto-filled was a great convenience and having to correct it an unwelcome chore. Anyone else having this issue?
  19. I had been offline for a few weeks. I uploaded some images. The images passed the QC and I started keywording. I noticed that, in optional section, there is now a tick box for 'Don't sell for Personal Use....' . Does it mean that now I can opt out Personal Use 'image by image' basis even if I still subscribe to Distributor Sale? Sung
  20. Hi, I've been adding my images to Lightrooms map but the embedded GPS co-ordinates aren't being used in "Location" in AIM, I still have to manually add them. Has anyone got this to successfully work from Lightroom? I've double checked they are in the exported image files, under "GPS" and Lat, Long, Altitude. Thanks, James
  21. With the new AIM it is possible to add multiple words into one tag. I thought about putting plurals and singulars into one tag; Hence using "goose geese" in one tag rather than doing two tags "goose", "geese". Has somebody experience or an opinion if that is wise, unwise or neutral?
  22. Trying to come to grips with the new image manager. I have two pseudo's one for RF and one for RM. The default appears to be RF and the pseudo is correct for that. But when uploading via the image manager how do I change the psuedo and license if that batch is intended to be RM? It appears those can be changed after the fact, but the image is at that point already on sale, and I thought you could not change the license after the image was on sale? Maybe it is just that simple but I'm confused. Would anyone care to clarify please?
  23. I just noticed a tool in AIM I hadn't seen before. Either it's new or I overlooked it before. There's a little cross that appears when I hover over the tags that allows me to change the order of the tags, as well as to merge tags together. I found it quite handy. Maria
  24. I'm wondering what conclusions people are coming to on best practice for tagging and supertagging keywords and keyword phrases. I'm particularly concerned with the use of keyword phrases as a unit and whether to use the individual words from the phrase as a further tag. and which of these, if any, to assign as a super tag. In examining my legacy images I am finding in most cases that all the current super tags are single keywords which the Image Manager has assigned as such. For the most part I also have corresponding keyword phrases in my list of tags, but they are just ordinary tags. To use a fictionalised example, in keywording my image of the shop exterior of 'The Purple Scorpion Shoe Shop', I think it is best to supertag the whole phrase and probably 'purple scorpion' and 'shoe shop'. However what about the single keywords 'purple', 'scorpion', 'shoe', 'shop'. Each of these alone is capable of resulting in false positives. Should I just remove the supertag status from them? Should I delete the single keywords altogether and just rely on the keyword phrases? Any insights from those of you who have delved into these things? Such keyword editing as I have done so far doesn't seems to have much of a positive impact and I would like to know what is the best way forward as I strive to edit the next 2000 images.
  25. Hello, hoping someone can help with my issue. I am trying to add more details to my images on the Alamy Image Manager but when I come to 'save', it isn't saving. Have tried on two different computers and the same thing, just won't save any changes. Has anyone else had or having this problem? Any suggestions please? Carl.
