  1. I've long heard about FTP upload, but does anyone have any preferences with regards what client is best? Does it depend on where you are in the world? Are there any drawbacks or things to watch out for? Etc Etc? Thanks Chris
  2. I wanna upload my illustraions. Can I upload illustration file ( EPS, AI, etc ) ? Thnx
  3. My question is should I be comfortable now that 9 images have passed QC or should I still be on guard? Hello, I am new and had read the Alamy forum prior to joining and I must say I was slightly frightened by the QC in Alamy and there was also some talk of how long it was taking to get through QC. I have so far experienced none of those problems. My first 4 images went though in 24 hours and passed, my second 5 images went though in about 40 hours and passed.

  5. I know others have reported the problem of their uploads not showing for a while. Like an hour or two? How about 9-10 hours? That's how long it's been. The upload hung up on the 2nd image. I hit pause then resumed again and it went fine for awhile then tried repeatedly on one other image before finally managing it, the rest of them zipped on through. I've never had that much trouble with an upload. I forgot to look for FTP availability. Darn. Betty
  6. Just curious as to how you all mark your images chosen for upload to Alamy, to sort them from the ones you haven't uploaded. Sometimes I may develop several similars from a shoot but end up only uploading a couple of them. Once converted to jpeg I put them in a folder marked "Alamy 200" or whatever number denoting how many uploads I've done. The original folder I'm working from may be named "13-08-06 restaurants". As I work, I also save back a jpeg to the original folder as a jpeg and mark them like this: DSC2044-AL.jpg. The AL lets me know I uploaded this image to Alamy. Then I delete the Tiff. Back before I saved only jpegs to my folders, I saved them in 8 bit (way way back, 16 bit) Tiff format. So I might have Tiffs that I have uploaded alongside Tiffs I didn't use. If I should go back to that folder, The "AL" designation lets me know which images are in my Alamy online portfolio and which are not. Nowadays, since I only save the jpeg back into the folder, I can readily see what I've done. Anything saved in jpeg has been uploaded, any Tiffs have not. Even so, I still mark the jpegs with the "AL" designation. What do you do? Betty

    Web uploader

When are you finally going to create a way to upload and submit images and video over the web? I feel like Alamy has been left behind in the stone ages. Until this is created it is not worth my time to create a spreadsheet with all the metadata and mail a hard drive. It needs to be an easy submission process like Pond 5. Their system reads all the metadata that has already been embedded in the file so that when it is uploaded I simply have to attach the necessary releases and click submit. (reading iptc metadata is a must for the upload process). Are you working on this yet? If so, what is the timeline? Hopefully you will begin soon so that I can start uploading to you again. Thanks. Jake
  9. My latest batch (the first since April) has come through with the Date taken fields filled in with the upload date. I've checked the files I sent and they are all date-stamped as normal. Other data has come through as normal. Tedious as at the very least I have to reduce them all to "Year only" or fill in correct date. I certainly don't want them posted with an incorrect date even it is of little relevance to purchasers. Has anyone else noticed this ?
  10. I started an upload this evening and then went out for an hour or two. I came back and the process seemed to be stuck on the 10th photo of 75. I tried pausing and restarting the process, but the "thermometer" goes up to 4% or 5% on a smaller file and then hangs. Anyone else having a problem uploading tonight? Should I just try again tomorrow?
  11. After uploading my first ever batch of images I tried tracking my submissions and found the submission history to be empty. So I uploaded the same images once more and after clicking around a bit the images showed up in the tracking info but with double as much images as I had planed. I came to the forum to search for a thread to see if it's possible to delete duplicate uploads but couldn't find any. The only relevant thread I found was talking about submissions not showing up directly after uploading images. Had I read that thread earlier I wouldn't have made that mistake but it's too late for that I guess. So for the obvious question. Is there an option to delete the duplicates to spare QC from the work of having to delete them? Regards derGraf
  12. After trying really hard to review my images before uploading, I rushed a batch and as soon as I had hit the key I knew they would fail. Couldn't there be a way of accessing the batches to delete them before they get near QC? I'm now back in the sin bin again. Aaaaaargggghh!
  13. I am having trouble uploading as my anti-virus (Panda 2014) is reporting Alamy's online upload GetMediaRef.aspx is infected with BAT/Downloader.xnf virus. As a result I get Warning Panda 2014 where the media reference should be and although the files upload they do not complete (no media ref presumably) with message "unable to connect to Alamy" It seems it also found same problem yesterday afternoon but the upload completed OK (I did not notice any problem) - shortly after it had updated threat signature file. Anybody else have a problem or getting virus reports from their av software when uploading. I can't recall getting a false positive before. I still get it after another Panda AV update. I have emailed member services Virus detected: BAT/Downloader.XNF Antivirus protection 29/06/2014 12:01:27 Deleted Path: http://www.alamy.com/OnLineUpload/GetMediaRef.aspx?UserID={0436B607-7531-4D77-BACF-A2FD347F7F14}&t=1404039686748[GetMediaRef.aspx]
  14. I'm new to Alamy and this is my first time posting on the forums hoping I can get some help with an issue I can't seem to resolve. Please forgive me if I missed any posts relating to this issue. I tried looking up some answers on google, the alamy site, and the forums here and can't seem to find a means of resolving it. I joined Almay shortly before the new dashboard came out, and I had uploaded my 4 test images and unfortunately failed the QC because I miss understood the sizing requirements (I saw the post mentioning confusion with the 24mb Tiffs so I'm glad to see I'm not the only customer to have been confused by that on the site requirements listing.) I took a few months to come back to the site to try again, been trying to upload my new test images for the last few hours here and am encountering several problems. My first attempt it claimed to have uploaded successfully all 4 images, but then when I went to track my submissions nothing was there. I looked through the uploader and it said no images were ready, nothing is giving me indication if my uploads actually worked or not. I've since tried uploading the same files again, and am worried maybe they went through but I received no indication of it? If they haven't, my later uploads have started to repeatedly fail. Only one or two seem to upload, the rest retry several times and then fail. I've tried clearing my cache, I've tried uploading with Chrome, Firefox, and Internet explorer with the same failed upload results. Some get through, others refuse, and its random every time I reload the page and try to upload. It also said it was having problems connecting to Alamy at one point. And the new dashboard isn't giving me any helpful information at least in regards to being a new member waiting to clear my submissions. Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this issue? Is there a way to upload to Alamy using an ftp program like file zilla instead of the websites uploader? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Why can't video clips be uploaded to Alamy via FTP as enabled by other major agencies? It's not acceptable to insist on submitting by post, especially when living on the other side of the world.
  16. I have tried to get some images on Alamy. I followed their submission rules very carefully and so was dismayed to encounter problems. I have tried several times and always fail their Quality Control check for the reason "Data loss or corruption". I checked their website for details of what that means and then checked my images very carefully and could see nothing wrong. So I emailed their Member Services for advice. They sent me a copy of two of my failed images and I was shocked to see the obvious corruption - the whole of the images were a wreck! Obviously I hadn't knowingly submitted them like that. I used their online upload facility and can only assume there is a problem between my computer system and theirs. I use an Apple Mac. I googled the subject and generally people who have uploading errors just seem to try again and they go though OK. I've tried about 6 times. I've tried converting the images to jpegs using 3 different software programs. I've tried uploading using Chrome. Nothing works. I'm out of ideas! I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's seen this type of problem before and especially if you know of a solution. Many thanks.
