  1. Obviously what we see in the Sales report on the forum is a focus on UK papers. What i'm curious, is if anyone has seen sales in other markets from Alamy for what i see as localized news mainstay.. as illustration i've used random stuff in title New World is a NZ based grocery store TD Bank a Canadian bank Ivan Pernar was a second tier Candidate to Croatian Presidency, and populist member of Parliament... i'm assuming countries with offices might have some forms of success... No need to reveal yours secret niche, just more curious in gener
  2. Has it always been the case that 2:3 aspect ratio images are returned in Alamy searches with the Panoramic [Pan] filter set? Seems a bit strange to me. Surely 2:3 format should be categorised as Landscape, but not Panoramic? Panoramic seems like a pointless filter if it includes 2:3 images and so isn't helping customers find what they are looking for... Mark Update: Ignore this post - my mistake!
  3. I'm wondering what is happening with the "productivity" of my portfolio, and I'd like to know if any of you is experiencing a similar sudden drop of sales. Here are my numbers for the last two years: 2017: 41 sales for $1527 2018: 57 sales for $2003 Everything was going well in 2019: I had 31 sales for $1615 at the end of August . My last sale appeared in my account on August 23. Since then I had zero sale, and my CTR has been continually decreasing since May. It usually was around 60 and it is now hovering between 35 and 40. I kept uploading images regularly until the
  4. Hi After a client had bought an image through Alamy, how soon will it appear in the contributors list of sales? Thanks if you know. Simon
  5. Is there any way that we (the photographers) can get any information on which company, organisation, newspaper, magazine, etc buys our images? It's easy enough to track some newspaper sales, but there are others that are not so easy, or near impossible to find, especially on the web. I currently use Copytrack, which does throw up some potential infringements, but not knowing who has bought an image at any given time, means that it is very difficult to tie usage to sales. Any ideas?
  6. Today my total zooms for the rolling month hit 101. I have been contributing since 2010 and during that time, I reached the 90s on two separate occasions, only to see them fall back again, never breaking 100. A couple of months ago, I was on about 65, but recently there has seen a surprising surge for no obvious reason. I hope they eventually translate into sales. I am curious of the following: 1. What are your current total zooms for the rolling month? 2. What is the highest total zooms you have ever had for the rolling month? 3. When
  7. Hi, new here. On my dashboard it shows sales to date as $42, but it says that the current cleared balance is $15. If I've made $42 why am I only cleared to get $15 of it? I see they won't pay until I've reached a balance of $50 which is fine, but I'm confused about the current cleared balance. What exactly does that mean? Thanks!
  8. Been looking through the forums, and it doesn't seem to be effecting anyone else, but heading into the last week of September, I may have my first month with no sales in over 2 years. The summer, as expected, has been a bit slow, but September is usually when things pick back up. Not really a question, just needed to vent a bit.
  9. I'm 90% sure that all my sales dashboard notifications from alamy show up around 8pm pacific time. Is that just a startling coincidence or does alamy only update the sale page once a day as opposed to other sites which update as they occur?
  10. Ive recently had some sales where the buyer hasnt zoomed them. I find that strange because I assume they would want to see it for inspection etc. Maybe its normal, anyway ide rather have sales than zooms so cant grumble.
  11. I've looked at the other topics discussing this issue, and none seemed to be exactly on point. I just got a bunch of photos passed of a tourist attraction here in the US. Not a vastly popular one, but in an area where surprisingly I've licensed a fair number on Alamy and some via my site on Photoshelter too - I think that these are two places where editors go for those hard to find images. I'm tempted to tick "exclusive to Alamy" because they are not the types of images I expect to sell often, hence I've uploaded them here, and I don't expect they'd be a big draw on either of the
  12. Hi, i know I have had a portfolio review before but this is a different question. About 95% of my pictures are Live News and of those 90% are from Downing Street and Westminster. I have a reasonable level of news web sales (anything from 10 to 30) and monthly print sales. (Between 1 and 5) This give a reasonable income for the three to four days a week I put in. (I have childcare responsibilities) The Cabinet Minister/Prime Minister shots are best sellers. However, I am not getting the level of print sales of friends covering broadly the same subjects. I am aware that t
  13. ...but sadly, only 1 from my portfolio. My CTR has been reasonable the last few months, but is in freefall this month (July), so when I noticed some nice person had 'zoomed' one of my images, I looked at my Pseudo info and saw that someone had searched for 'Russia historical portrait', and zoomed 3404 of the 4003 images they viewed. Occasionally, I have seen up to perhaps about 50 zooms for a single search phrase, but never anything remotely near the 3404 in this instance. Unless this was a bot stealing our images for display on some dodgy website (unlikely? given that
  14. Why is it that most times that I get a 'big' sale it's via a distributor? Always a downer when you see a 'big' sale and then see in the sales report it's a distributor sale with big minuses as commisions. Most of my Alamy direct sales are for smaller amounts. 😕 . Any ideas why this is? John
  15. I just did a reverse image search on a photo that sold today, and discovered that it was also used twice previously in other publications over the past few years. I'm not sure if those other sales were reported, and am wondering. . . rather than go through pages and pages of my known sales history, is there a way to find the sales history of just an individual image? Thank you!
  16. Hey all, it's about a year ago that I made my first submission to Alamy. With over 6000 photos online and with only a few sales yet I'm thinking about improving keywords and captions. Do you have any ideas what I can do better, should avoid or what mistakes I should definitely correct? Please note that I have already read the guides on keywording on Alamy. Or do I just need more patience? Cheers, Caspar
  17. Has anyone else noticed a rise in the number of personal use sales lately? I've had five this month, ranging from $9.73 to $19.99, which could be a new record for me. P.S. I'm not complaining as I signed up for PU knowing the possible pitfalls. Just curious...
  18. Hi, I’ve been uploading kaleidoscope / abstract versions of my images like the one below. I notice there are lots of this type of thing on Alamy. Wondering if anyone has had any sales? Do people buy these?
  19. Is having 23 uncleared sales at Alamy normal since January ? I was shocked to see this having just looked now. Its bad enough that sale amounts have drastically reduced but to have so many sales uncleared is disappointing. And on another note, what happened to the forum link at the bottom of the page ? I have to Google Alamy forums to get the page up now.
  20. Greetings, Hi everyone... Was checking as time pass, that which of my photo are being used and where, and found ONE getting published in a newspaper article on 09 April 2019. To my great surprise, the said sale was not updated on the My Alamy dashboard. I checked the Alamy FAQ as well and they have said that they update the sales in dashboard as it happens, whereas cleared balance gets updated later on. The newspaper in the photo captions has given the credit also as wassup6730/Alamy wassup6730 is my username. Anyone else has experienced the s
  21. I check my sales and zooms by going into - Your iImages and then drilling down to the actual image sold/zoomed which I then annotate. When I close that annotated image the screen now jumps to another Alamy open tab rather than the thumbnail of that image. For the last ten years my system has reverted back to the thumbnail. Anyone else having this problem when they have more than one tab open?
  22. I'm curious of other contributors success with sales of archival images, how have they done? Obviously it would depend on the subjects. I have a huge number of mainly B&W 35mm negatives from the 1970's, 80's and 90's. For sometime I've been considering scanning a selection, but so far never had the free time. Extensive scanning is a should destroying job. I still have my Minolta Dimage 5400 optical scanner, it produces good images. What renewed my interest again was the fairly recent and untimely death of Magenta de Vine as she was known, as being in the news. She u
  23. Hi First post on here & I would be very grateful for any feedback you may have to offer. SALES DECLINE My sales up to the end of 2018 were increasing roughly in line with the number of photos online, achieving an average of just under a sale a week last year. However my sales for Jan-Mar 2019 have been almost nil and I am at a loss to explain this sudden drop. I would have expected them to remain constant even without the 1000+ images I have keyworded from late 2018 onwards. FYI I am still getting roughly the same zooms. Has anyone else experienced a drop in sales wit
  24. I was wondering if you guys see a correlation between views/zooms/ and sales? In relation to how many images you have uploaded?
  25. Just a quick poll, since going exclusive my zooms and sales seem to have come to a standstill just wondered if this is being seen generally, can anyone out there report good sales or at least normal since going exclusive. Conversely if you opted for 40% have your sales increased.
