  1. Or the time to focus so much on the general BHZ rank has gone. I stopped worrying and checking sincerely after a drop about a year ago. However, searching on test keywords I see a number of individual photos being in the top end - and a number of photos in the creative selection (not searching on the pseudonym, however - but I am a lot more editorial). Sales is/are my only focus - unfortunately been down this month. But generally you are right - the profession is doomed.
  2. I can't say successful with only 6 sales, but two were from Pond5, three from Fotolia and one from Shutterstock. I also have video with Revostock and Istock. Still too few clips to gauge much.
  3. Based on how well my Alamy sales are going compared to all my other platforms I could only offer $100. If they were on a different platform I'd be open to negotiation
  4. True! I already do it for a long time, and still learn new tricks now and then. Not only about adding, but also about eliminating keywords AND words in the caption. Seems like an ongoing learning process Always nice to see better sales after making major alterations. Cheers, Philippe Nice photos Phillippe! Respect.

  6. Sorry Philippe, I'm in agreement with Jeff here. Is stock shooting + an income still attainable? Yes, it is but what folks don't appreciate is that you have to keep going all the time. Of course, with the plethora of people shooting now it is harder but not impossible. Since I started throwing myself into this properly and thinking logically about what it is that I should be doing I have seen sales start to come in more and more. In addition, the argument that you see every so often that "don't bother going here as there's already loads of coverage" is rubbish. Places and people c
  7. If I can't figure out the number of people, miscellaneous body parts, fuzzy reflections, etc., even at 100%, I just click "more than four people." Recognizable people are what really counts IMO. It seems doubtful that someone will be able to recognize his or her elbow in a picture. But almost all of my sales are editorial, so it's not a big deal. I also don't bother with model releases for the same reason.
  8. Hi Ray - Well, though I'm more familiar with "Found A photographs in Month-X?" threads, I have seen what you wrote about. Considering everything, I'd opt for contacting A (or PM'ing one of the many fellow contributors likely to know more than I), rather than post about it. Also related to searchable forums - I recently tweaked my signature. If someone ggg's my name, I want my site/work coming up, not posts that are generally as exciting as what I'm writing now All the best, Ann So you haven't seen the monthly discussion threads talking specifically about sales? I find it very usef
  9. MS replied about the dates on the license, basically they take the date of the calculator (buyer input) and that might not match the date of use. They said: "Picture desks are busy places, they buy thousands of images from Alamy. Due to the volume of their orders it is not feasible for the client, or our Sales team to individually input each license detail' I guess I dont have to admin the use of my RM images either as I have no clue if any data is correct on the license details. And I opted out of the novel scheme, not the newspaper scheme, an misunderstanding on my side.
  10. Interesting topic. Certainly gave me food for thought. In terms of communication between contributors I have always found it reassuring that others are having similar experiences to me. On this basis I believe that the debate on pricing is both constructive and appropriate. In terms of an open forum I guess that this is Alamy's choice. At first sight this seems an odd choice but it could be argued that buyers seeing us beef about low prices may, quite correctly, surmise that they may get the best value at Alamy. Surely this is a sales plus for Alamy and for the contributors. What
  11. In many cases it simply is NOT worth chasing and the blighters know it - bloggers steal images but rarely have any funds to get. Not at all surprised that the original was nicked from the D.Mail who are the usual suspects when an image goes viral. However, you did sign up with IR and you should get what you paid for. I don't rely on them to find my images, because they often find large numbers of legit sales, and then I have to tell them to lay off - what works for me is that I send a screengrab and the URL together with a copy of my file image to the License Compliance e-mail address - I usu
  12. So you haven't seen the monthly discussion threads talking specifically about sales? I find it very useful to know what is selling and what isn't and when some else also gets a small sale that is not explained by Alamy. They don't always turn up in the "have you seen..." threads. I wasn't aware these forums are searchable by Google, perhaps they shouldn't be since they often discuss matters only concerning contributors.
  13. I suspect that with a lot of these sales across ALL Alamy contributors and distributors it probably is. We encounter them on the forum but there must be hundreds of measly payouts daily that we would never know about. For the poor git on the end of the chain (who, after all, only took the photo, prepped it etc) it is NOT - unless they have some big hits too? nj
  14. You have to wonder if sales like these are worth anyone's time -- the photographer, Alamy, or the distributor. After all, time and money has to be spent on invoicing, storage, etc.
  15. Of your long litany of observations and complaints the only one that popped out at me was "The number of sales this month is average for me." Relax. Maybe deep breathing would help.
  16. that's funny I had 2 meerkat shots sell for $10 too .. maybe someone is collecting! ;-) Meerkat 1 a day calendar. Typical bulk fee for if they're buying 365 images. wim edit: OK a google search easily reveals the buyer, including a tear. Let's not discuss prices on the open net any further please. edit2: it's in the images found thread. Wim, thanks for revealing the source of those mysterious sales, but who are you to stifle other people's discussions? and have you not seen the open discussions/therad/posts about earnings every single month????? I don't want to sti
  17. I nearly opted out back in April but the number of sales and the belief that they would help my ranking, convinced me to stay in. Always listen to inner self.

  20. Let's say they sell one of my pictures as a 20" X 30" fine art print for $ 56.24, all I get will be ................ $ 0.5 ????? I notice that 99% of my Novel Use Scheme1 sales are sold for $ 1 (gross). This month I received a Novel Use Scheme2 sale for $ 10 (gross). Anybody knows what the difference is between Novel Use Scheme1 and Novel Use Scheme2? Cheers, Philippe $9..... *cough* ....sorry. I'll leave now!
  21. Good to know. I have been scanning at 6400 dpi and reducing resolution. The results are decent on 35mm Tri-X. The images are good enough for prints and print sales. I haven't failed QC at Alamy yet (knock wood) and I'm not sure I want to brave it. I submitted the images to two other agencies that accept film scans and I'll try that route first.
  22. According to Alamy, NU sales do NOT count towards ranking. Pearl
  23. What about asking the teacher about his success. Current sales please! Not 5 or 10 yrs ago. ;-) wim
  24. Sales will come. You only have a very small collection, and a only very limited number of subjects (after knocking off similars). Keep shooting; making money on Alamy is a long-term commitment. Dave
