  1. Best one this year in January, $290 Several $100-150 this year. Average sale price since day one $82.87 per image. These days most images go for between $30-$75, I haven't had almost any sales from Novel Use, one of the few got reversed!
  2. I enjoy using manual focus lenses now and then, but I find that I miss shots. My eyesight ain't what it used to be, so I just can't focus quickly or accurately enough sometimes. I've also become hooked on zooms over the years. You're right about the distance scales. The ones on my Minolta MF lenses aren't really all that usable with the adapter. However, it's pretty cool to be able to resurrect this old glass. I foolishly sold some my better MF lenses a few years ago. Whoever dreamed that mirrorless cameras like the NEX, etc. would come along. My favourite MF lens for my NEX-3 is a 45mm f/2 "

  5. As I am in the process of doing this myself and found the same problem. I rang and spoke to them this morning and their advise was to enter "Alamy claim" in the validation boxes and back it up with a copy of your alamy sales history emailed to payback@dacs.org.uk. This is the procedure I'll follow but I think I'll also incorporate Richards solution.
  6. Sales UP here... I'm consistently getting 4 or 5 per week. However, prices are on the low side.
  7. Both. Large customers, especially newspapers, have more or less free access to the images and report uses by themselves. This can take up to three months, or even more. Some have a tendency to forget. This is why you should keep a record of your found images, screen dumps, links, tearsheets, etc. as evidence in an e-mail to Member Services if not reported as a sale after three months. More unpaid work for the modern and low paid slave - the photographer. The most general use of the term unreported sale is to describe the waiting time for the sale to be reported, though. Most uses are r
  8. No one in any business is forced to offer discounts, I always work on the principle that the price is what the price is, if they want it, that's the price. The thing with any photography, is that if they want it, but won't pay the asking price, buy something else, it won't be what you wanted, but you'll have saved a few quid! This argument doesn't work so well if its pictures of, test tubes, pills, money, etc etc as there are lots of these subject, but when its a specialist picture of a specialist subject, you can afford to stick to your pricing. I mentioned it before, in another t
  9. I don't have any sales here yet, but I'm curious as what you mean by unreported sales. Your image is licensed to a client without any record or payment? Or is there just a delay for some reason?
  10. Sales and zooms rock bottom for the last 2-3 months but the number of unreported sales that I know of going up! my last sale was an unreported sale from last year paid out in June to the grand sum of $9. I have yet to tell alamy about the 3 other unreported sales I have found, but at that price I dont know if its even worth the bother!
  11. Ed, the Touit lenses reportedly do not support the NEX-6's hybrid autofocus system (only phase detect AF). Perhaps that has something to do with the difficulties you are experiencing. This could be where you read about possible firmware updates: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/in-future-there-may-be-zeiss-touit-zooms-for-nex/ Sounds like a lovely lens. Wish I could afford one. I'm currently preparing a batch of photos taken with the Sony 16 mm pancake lens and Sony's ultra wide angle converter (12 mm APS). Images are tack-sharp in the centers with the NEX-3 and no problems passing QC. T

Anil wrote: And, when one get 5-10 sales a day at iStock even during such 'sales promotion', the overall ROI may not be that bad. ....talking of RF there (at iStock) and 5-15 years 'Rights Managed' here at Alamy, the average going rate/use seem somewhat comparable at times. Anil, Interesting. Exactly what % do you receive from Istock?
  13. "If that's 20% off the calculator price, I've no complaints. Given the amount of negotiation that goes on, 20% off what......?" Excellent question. Only 20% off the calculator price would be a real bonus for contributors. That's probably not the case. However, this voucher might help explain some of the lower than usual sales being reported this summer.
  14. My zooms have recently dropped off completely over the last two months. I know I don't have that many images on board but am adding regularly and still nothing. Something has changed.
  15. You do need examples of magazine use picked up from the 'have you found any Alamy images' thread. However an alternative is your net revenue statement from Alamy for last year. For RM sales the licence details may be detailed enough. For example 'UK, magazine, print' is enough. I was asked to put 'Alamy claim 2013' in the various fields, submit and then email the spreadsheet of my net revenue.
  16. ......and with respect that's WHY the industry is going IMO...... multiply yourself by a few (hundred) thousand Ken - who do not need to make a living and are happy to take the micro rates and you can see where it is all going. However, this is not a rant against the happy hobbyist - they are very often great photographers - you've only got to look around the portfolios on the forum - nor is it a rant against the managing editors and prudent buyers - why would you expect them to behave differently. The world has changed - live with it ! Having viewed my net sales so far this
  17. Earlier this month I had several long sessions revising my specialist pseudonym keywords, contents, similars etc. I then immediately doubled the monthly zooms on my main archive where I had done nothing! That said the number of zooms/ sales I get are such that a blip like that is statisically meaningless.
  18. My sales are on or above average over the last few months. Values this month so far have been well above average - obviously it won't last but its nice to dream. dov
  19. I haven't sold any images this month - yet! In fact I haven't sold anything since 17th July, which is 27 days ago! Being as I average 5 a month I should have had 4 or 5 sales in that time. Oh well, fingers, toes and eyes crossed that a sale pops up soon. John.
  20. Sales seem to about the same to me but as John M says, the prices continue to drop.
  21. Sales are a fairly constant zero, but with so few images in a vast sea I shouldn't complain as that is in my own hands. However, since I opted out of the newspaper scheme (mainly because of poor reporting by newspapers and no consequences resulting from poor reporting of usage) zooms have dropped considerably and I expect to drop off the end of the earth shortly. Joe
  22. My sales have actually picked up during the past six weeks, but prices have been low.
  23. The buyers and commissioners are all dipping their toes in the Med. It's called summer. On the bright side, sales will inevitably rocket in the 4 months before the close-down for Cristmas. Richard.
