  1. $75 sale dropped in this afternoon to tick the sales counter from 999 to 1000. 6 years on Alamy - first submission passed QC on 13 January 2014, first sale on 27 June 2014 - so I'm pleased with the progress. Flowers appear to sell. I must photograph a few more. 😀
  2. I shoot in 3:2 aspect ratio for all of my images and if I crop it's also to 3:2 . Just wondering what other members do. 16:9 would work well for some shots but are they likely to be saleable?
  3. I'm wondering what is happening with the "productivity" of my portfolio, and I'd like to know if any of you is experiencing a similar sudden drop of sales. Here are my numbers for the last two years: 2017: 41 sales for $1527 2018: 57 sales for $2003 Everything was going well in 2019: I had 31 sales for $1615 at the end of August . My last sale appeared in my account on August 23. Since then I had zero sale, and my CTR has been continually decreasing since May. It usually was around 60 and it is now hovering between 35 and 40. I kept uploading images regularly until the
  4. From your personal experience on Alamy can you say what is the relationship of sales to zooms. To date I have 1 sale but it was never zoomed and many zooms that never made a sale. What do zooms actually tell us. Thankx
  5. Since 1/7/2017 until now I have had 50 zooms and 20 sale but only one of my sales has originated (although I cannot be sure of this as it could be a coincidence) from a zoom. Does this mean that zooms are actually irrelevant? Does it also mean that Alamy is short changing us by including CTR as one of the criteria for ranking? Kevin
  6. I don’t know why i never noticed before but I spotted today that my two cameras are set up differently. One is 3:2 the other 3:4. I’ve sold pictures in both formats but just wondering is one better for stock than the other. Any views?
  7. Kevin
  8. Is there any way that we (the photographers) can get any information on which company, organisation, newspaper, magazine, etc buys our images? It's easy enough to track some newspaper sales, but there are others that are not so easy, or near impossible to find, especially on the web. I currently use Copytrack, which does throw up some potential infringements, but not knowing who has bought an image at any given time, means that it is very difficult to tie usage to sales. Any ideas?
  9. Hi After a client had bought an image through Alamy, how soon will it appear in the contributors list of sales? Thanks if you know. Simon
  10. Hi, new here. On my dashboard it shows sales to date as $42, but it says that the current cleared balance is $15. If I've made $42 why am I only cleared to get $15 of it? I see they won't pay until I've reached a balance of $50 which is fine, but I'm confused about the current cleared balance. What exactly does that mean? Thanks!
  11. My zooms have been experiencing a rapid collapse since October for no clear reason. This morning they hit a multi year low of 28 for rolling month (yesterday 0 zooms from 568 views). 3 month numbers: October 2018: 97 November 2018: 53 December 2018: 31 This can't be down to just random chance. Is it just me or is everyone experiencing something similar? If you care to share what are you numbers?
  12. Hi, i know I have had a portfolio review before but this is a different question. About 95% of my pictures are Live News and of those 90% are from Downing Street and Westminster. I have a reasonable level of news web sales (anything from 10 to 30) and monthly print sales. (Between 1 and 5) This give a reasonable income for the three to four days a week I put in. (I have childcare responsibilities) The Cabinet Minister/Prime Minister shots are best sellers. However, I am not getting the level of print sales of friends covering broadly the same subjects. I am aware that t
  13. Been looking through the forums, and it doesn't seem to be effecting anyone else, but heading into the last week of September, I may have my first month with no sales in over 2 years. The summer, as expected, has been a bit slow, but September is usually when things pick back up. Not really a question, just needed to vent a bit.
  14. Hi There, Does anybody know if views and zooms by other contributors are added to the stats in Alamy measures? I know I quite often browse other contributors work and am conscious that they may show as zooms that are are of little or no significance to the contributor? Thanks, Steve
  15. I've looked at the other topics discussing this issue, and none seemed to be exactly on point. I just got a bunch of photos passed of a tourist attraction here in the US. Not a vastly popular one, but in an area where surprisingly I've licensed a fair number on Alamy and some via my site on Photoshelter too - I think that these are two places where editors go for those hard to find images. I'm tempted to tick "exclusive to Alamy" because they are not the types of images I expect to sell often, hence I've uploaded them here, and I don't expect they'd be a big draw on either of the
  16. I'm 90% sure that all my sales dashboard notifications from alamy show up around 8pm pacific time. Is that just a startling coincidence or does alamy only update the sale page once a day as opposed to other sites which update as they occur?
  17. Hi First post on here & I would be very grateful for any feedback you may have to offer. SALES DECLINE My sales up to the end of 2018 were increasing roughly in line with the number of photos online, achieving an average of just under a sale a week last year. However my sales for Jan-Mar 2019 have been almost nil and I am at a loss to explain this sudden drop. I would have expected them to remain constant even without the 1000+ images I have keyworded from late 2018 onwards. FYI I am still getting roughly the same zooms. Has anyone else experienced a drop in sales wit
  18. G'day all, I keep reading about zooms but despite searches I still can't find out how to check for zooms in my small port. Also wondering if iptc metadata is stripped when I upload? I add it but wonder if I am wasting my time. Cheers for the help.
  19. How is the order of displayed zoomed images determined? It doesn't appear to be by date zoomed, frequency of zooms, sales or reference number as far as I can tell - it also appears to change from day to day. Alex
  20. I just did a reverse image search on a photo that sold today, and discovered that it was also used twice previously in other publications over the past few years. I'm not sure if those other sales were reported, and am wondering. . . rather than go through pages and pages of my known sales history, is there a way to find the sales history of just an individual image? Thank you!
  21. Hi I noticed that number of zooms for my images reduced overnight by one (not sure about the views). Does not concern me particularly, but I struggle to image what could be the reason for this. Any ideas?
  22. Hi, For medical reasons I haven't shot any new stock for a couple of months nor submitted anything to Alamy. Over this period my zooms have been in freefall. I don't know if that is a coincidence or not. How is everyone else's rolling zooms total for the month? Are they going strong or are you seeing a significant drop also? I may be wrong but I suspect Alamy may have implemented something that aggressively pushes you back in the search order if you slow or stop submissions. My zooms peaked in October 2017 at about 95 for the month (at the time I had b
  23. Hey all, it's about a year ago that I made my first submission to Alamy. With over 6000 photos online and with only a few sales yet I'm thinking about improving keywords and captions. Do you have any ideas what I can do better, should avoid or what mistakes I should definitely correct? Please note that I have already read the guides on keywording on Alamy. Or do I just need more patience? Cheers, Caspar
  24. Has anyone else noticed a rise in the number of personal use sales lately? I've had five this month, ranging from $9.73 to $19.99, which could be a new record for me. P.S. I'm not complaining as I signed up for PU knowing the possible pitfalls. Just curious...
