I am not familiar with the Reportage route. What is this if you don't mind? I usually cover the news event and upload to live news within minutes using mobile phone. Why would this not be suitable for non-UK based media?

Reportage just goes straight to Stock, no Live News Feed, with similar QC requirement to News so tougher images to get (low light), and hits the search overnight so no 2-3 days wait for searches, and no no man's land limbo.

The main issue for non UK/European based news, is that Alamy is not a major source for local news editors, so if I have an event that is unlikely to hit international News Wire, I have little need to upload in 10 minutes, but they have gotten decent fees on the Stock side, many times in next few weeks, images that were too soft for me to feel comfortable uploading through QC,

It was also issue to help out Alamy.  LN requires more work for them, so i was trying to cooperate with them, and not force them to have to handle stories they really had little chance of selling, but now this remains my only option, so I will continue as per Their request.

I could not agree with you more. I was not aware that the 60% also applies to news images, until I got a painful surprise looking at the account balance 😕

I am re-evaluating the options, but still would like to find out what everyone uses.

    Thank you

yep, and then when i asked if i could get access to using Reportage as an alternative, as the cost of rushing upload made it non profitable for more non-UK based news which get more traction in that market, Alamy Contributor "Support" just denied the request, which didn't help my spirit.

    Hi,

I occasionally contribute to local news over the last few years, but most of it on the basis on me being in the right place by coincident. Rarely have I actually planned to be in a place where a newsworthy event was happening. I would like to change this and plan more visits to newsworthy public events. Can you tell me what sources of information you use to find out what newsworthy (protests, grand openings, emergency responses etc) is going to be happening in your area?

    Thank you

Depends of your interest, I Try to find and follow local activists on Twitter.  Some searches for "XXXXX march",  "XXXXX rally" even quick "XXXX saturday" to see if anything coming up.

That said Alamy's recent actions have reduced my current spirit in looking for these.

Not even a "Thank you for bringing this to our attention".

Just a 'thanks' at the end, which is short for "thanks for your continuing forbearance, over which you have no choice".

why would it be different from any other such reporting of issues with it over last 12 months?

1.Ignore. 2.Deny any issue. 3.'"Technical problem" message 4. IT looking into it 5. Some random change happens 6.Radio silence 7. Rinse and repeat

Looks like it's updated now with quite a few extra zooms catching up ....

same here.  This is a concern as it means CTR would have been wrongly calculated, Potentially affecting individual placements in search- Alamy's documentation on the impact of CTR.

I wonder if this is why overall CTR was down significantly on Tuesday.

In fact I notice this morning Alamy's reported "Last month average CTR on Alamy"  went up from 0.56 to 0.59 from Tuesday, this is Significant at the overall level.  Any input?

  6. thanks Alamy for checking into this, though i am curious how we went from telling @Tony ALS "everything is fine" to recognising there is an issue, which has been going on for quite a while- reports of irregularities in measures and lack of updates go back to last autumn.

I do appreciate the "reassurance" that the issue is only with "Measures" and not actual client interactions, but considering as of yesterday there was "reassurance" issued that Measures was fine, see aforementioned email, this may again go into the also previously mentioned "communication with contributors"  category.

but at least it looks now like the issue is taken seriously- some of us do use the tool- and the internal problem may finally be resolved.

My views look fine but I haven’t had a zoom for over a week which is highly unusual and I don’t think can be attributed to the bank holiday. Hopefully the lack of any data today means that something is being fixed.

i had a couple of zooms in last week, but both time when i looked at "yesterday's" result their was no zoom that day.  I could identify the new one looking at monthly data, my zooms are down so not too hard, but something else was messy.

Steve, you provide an amazing free service and I think most of your comments are spot on but I just disagree with this one issue about convergence, unless severe.

I thought this one example is really nice as it is.  The slight convergence adds to its grandeur (in my opinion).

Ferrara, Italy (6th August 2021) - The Estense Castle (XIV century) right in the middle of italian Ferrara's center - Stock Image

i agree with you on this one, i would however have  capture more of the foreground for perspective (or cropped it squarer)

It is unusual for me to make $500 for an image so I am willing to believe someone helped me along with those sales.

see, until Alamy justifies the use, i am not willing to give credit for a system that we have to pay fully.  At least distributor has brought me clients from markets Alamy likely doesn't reach well, but who are these affiliates, and what do they do.  Also if they are so valuable, why is their cost totally supported by Us.

My concern with these affiliate fees is that with net earnings from some sales now being so low, the affiliate fees can actually cancel them out.

as i mentioned elsewhere my biggest problem with affiliate fees is the last 2 i had were for already deep discounted fee, last a 40%+ discounted PU, so what is value of affiliate in this case?  If they can bring good customers, great use them, if they are only getting people who want cheap low cost purchase, drop the affiliate- they bring 0 value.

But I didn't want it deleted!

I asked for it to be replaced as this thread is talking about.

not sure i understand.  The new image is the one for sale, and the old one isn't, so in the database it is replaced from a clients perspective, by opposition to both being available.  Also the process now allows Alamy to redirect a potential client who would be searching for the original image if they contact them.
