  1. I received the email as well, and I'm glad to now have archival/reportage access. It is timely because I just prepped a couple of images yesterday based on a recent customer's search. A couple of my live news images from 2015 had been zoomed several times. There are almost no other images in alamy's library on that topic so I decided to go back to my files and work on a couple more from that shoot. But I was hesitant to submit them to QC because the sharpness is reduced because of the conditions at that time. Now I have a way to submit them without worrying about QC. Maria
  2. Thanks Wim. I wasn't sure given it was the same lense that was discussed as a relatively inexpensive lens. The price is definitely higher in Canada, and it's difficult to find. One camera store sells it online (for $529) but it is special order and not returnable (!). I did see it for $US 398 from American retailers, but with the exchange rate and duty, it's not a better price. I'm wanting to upgrade from my original rx100 model and I'm still trying to decide between the a6000 and one of the newer versions of rx100. The rx100s are definitely pricier than the a6000 body, but
  3. Is this the 28-70 mm lens that is being recommended for the Sony a6000? https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/camera-lenses/sel2870 Thanks.
  4. I'm reading this thread with interest because I want to upgrade my sony rx100 (M1) and was curious to see what others are using for compact cameras. Both the rx100 models and the a6000 appear to be on sale at the moment. I hadn't originally considered the a6000 but I now am given it's better dynamic range and IQ than the rx100. And at the moment a kit with the sony a6000 and two lenses (16-50 and 55-210) is the same price as the sony rx100 M3 ($850.00 here). Are there any other thoughts on the a6000 and those lenses? I have a Nikon that I use otherwise but I don't always wan
  5. Not a very successful month for me, no matter how you define it. But I did get a whole whack of zooms in the last few days so I'm hoping this time next month will be better.
  6. Is there a way to post anything but square images on instagram? No matter how I crop or resize my image, it always gets cropped to a square when it goes online.
  7. Also remember to put both singular and plural versions of your keywords. For example, I like one of your kangaroo photographs. However only "kangaroo" was in the keywords, not "kangaroos". If someone was searching for images of "red kangaroos", they would never find that image.
  8. Just wondering about image shape on instagram. So far anything I've posted has ended up square. Horizontal images have been cropped at the sides, and vertical images have been cropped both top and bottom. Is that the norm or are there a way to set image dimensions?
  9. Same email as well. My last submission was over a week ago and those images are up and selling.
  10. I'm giving instagram a try and here's my new account. Still learning how to use it https://www.instagram.com/mjcreativeimagery/
  11. Since when are scheduled events and political marches not news? Looking at the live news pages, I see many scheduled sporting events, political demonstrations and events, entertainment events, photos of the sun, the moon, and photos of a skunk in green grass (ok that last one wasn't scheduled, but is it news?).
  12. Fantastic topic! Here are my three: Former Provincial leader of British Columbia Christy Clark (from my Live News days) Vancouver celebrity and entrepreneur Faye Leung (aka Hat Lady) And more recently, a first time female Time Lord:
  13. Yes that's what I was getting at Matt. I'm guessing that some of the LiveNews images produced here may have sold if there were more (or any) Canadian news desks using alamy images. But like I said, I'm just guessing, I don't know the behind the scenes details, and I haven't checked every Canadian news outlet.
  14. I was wondering about location as well. I don't see anything from Canada in the Live News feed at the moment and I wonder how many Canadian contributors kept their Live News access. My LiveNews images never sold as news, but then again I have never seen any of the local or national news outlets showing any alamy images. Like others, I am uphappy with the way I was abruptly cut from Live News. It would have gone over easier if there was an earlier announcement about upcoming changes and how Live News access was going to be reduced. Maria
  15. That's a good point John. I've also noticed in textbooks I've used, and in books where I've found my photographs, that the image credits often list several different agencies. So it doesn't make sense to compete with yourself by having the same images elsewhere and cheaper.
  16. So sorry to hear about all you're going through Betty. I have my share of back issues too. Hope yours is feeling better soon. Maria
  17. A street of cherry blossoms in Metro Vancouver.
  18. I just got the email too. Does alamy want to prune out their news submitters? None of my live news images have sold as news, only as stock. I'm wondering if all news submitters have to re-apply,
  19. 3 MB size is fine for QC. The 17MB requirement is for the uncompressed file size, not the jpg. From the alamy contributor pages: File size of over 17MB (when uncompressed/open) Your JPEG file is likely to have a compressed size of 3-5MB. Opening a JPEG in an image program such as Adobe Photoshop will show you the uncompressed/open file size.
