  3. Perhaps your wish will come true, Bill, but I'm not clear on how this would change things legally. A person doesn't have to be the main subject of an image in order to be a subject -- i.e. everyone in an image is technically a subject, but only one or more is/are usually the main subject. No? I think (and have sometimes said) that if a buyer ticks that they want e.g. "3 people", they almost certainly want to see three clear people as the subject of the photo, not three tiny, totally defocussed groups of pixels or body parts. There should be a distinction between indicating the number of p
  4. Thanks, Lynne (previous page). I haven't used tineye since Google reverse image search started. I must remember to use it in future when I get stuck. I still can't decide if I'm a very odd keyworder or if 'other people' are missing a trick.
  5. This happens to you a lot? dd I'm just starting on Alamy, so it hasn't happened at all here. But I believe it has happened to me through my images on Corbis. So the answer would be ... it happens. Just trying to figure out how I can set it up so "presentations" is not an option here. Thanks There will always be tiny sales (depending on the discount the buyer has negotiated), and you'll be extremely unlikely to find out if someone has bought your file for one use then used it for another, except by chance or if someone seems to think your RM image is RF and resuses it on a web

Surely I must be missing it on these searches. Hundreds of found in-uses for this file (may be RF?) Hundreds of uses of this one found online too, and it must be RM. Can't find it, either on Alamy, e.g. "Bank Signs HSBC, Lloyds, Santander", "several bank signs", "various bank signs", "different bank signs", "Bank signs wall" http://www.
  7. I've had the same use, netting me $47.91. It's partly the image, partly the use, and mainly the discount the buyer has negotiated.

  9. That's depressing. I've notified Alamy of a large number of infringements by one company (well known to the community) and got the same message, not to contact them again and assuring me that their infringement team is on the case. I strongly suspect this company chooses not to recognise the difference between RM and RF, and is a recividist, bearing in mind that I sometimes see scores of uses of one RM file by them. I really wish Alamy would deal with infringements by its 'deep discount' buyers as urgent - it might encourage them to be more honest in their reporting (though I fear that migh
  10. I was a teacher., and I very much doubt if we sell much to that market. When teaching, I used probably over a hundred images each week, in different ways. As I would have had to pay for them myself, it wouldn't have been worth my while working, to licence images, even at the low rates we (including me) don't like to see from stock sales. Of course, I was using time to search for 'legally free' images, but it wasn't actually 'money out'. More recently, when teaching community education, I was getting £21 per teaching hour (no allowance for prep time), which again would make even Alamy's pu

  13. True, but I didn't upload anything from last year anyway, so I'm not losing anything. I really need some hints on how to do better about getting permission. Like I said in the OP, I usually get no reply at all; yet that Alamy blog seemed to suggest it was quite simple, you just asked and got.
  14. There's no problem with taking pictures, I photographed constantly on the first day last year with my dSLR, and many others were taking photos on a variety of devices. It's not easy knowing exactly who is the right person anyway: someone senior from the (foreign) company who owns the premises or as I tried, the press rep of the company which is organising the event.

  16. I got a reply back today and was told that I can sell photos of products and displays, but not any people at the event. I guess I won't bother, then, because the story is the people at the event, and I can't imagine the exhibitors are going to want me clogging up their frontage trying to get photos while avoiding all people in the background! Indeed, the lighting indoors where there are products and displays was very low, I was really hoping for permission to photograph the people outdoors interacting with each other etc. This was a recent blog post which we received an email about in Dece

  19. Thanks again, Bryan. I'm accumulating quite a few unreported sales. One day my ship will come in. ;-)
  20. Wasn't there a blanket email from Alamy some time back telling us to remove ALL content taken within museums anywhere without explicit permission to sell?

  22. I've been looking at public liability. I won't be near any Hollywood a-listers any more than if I happened to bump into one when going about my everyday life, viz highly unlikely. But on a quick look online, I can't find any pli which meets my needs. They ones I've checked out all assume a studio and full equipment, and models and assistants, whereas any liability I might have would be exactly the same as a keen amateur might have, viz accidentally stepping back onto someone's toes or similar. Still, this is really about getting no response at all, I'm not even at the stage of anyone requ
  23. Ha, I wasn't sure whether this would be the remit of my MP or my MSP, as the Scottish Parliament has "The power to make laws on certain issues, including ... many aspects of transport, including roads and busses", with no mention on either the Holyrood or Westminster sides about railways. http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/PublicInformationdocuments/SP_Holyrood_and_Westminster_English_Sept_2014.pdf (p2) My MSP and MP are a husband and wife team, but I don't suppose, 'pass it to your spouse if appropriate' is really the way to go. However, in my search I came upon this page, with, iron
