  1. i like both images but I wouldn't risk them with QC Best Wishes John
  2. " Sounds like crossed wires somewhere" Thanks - that provides the link so it's probably just an error
  3. I'm glad they do keep the forum open. I spent many weeks deciding whether to sign up for Alamy, and reading the posts on this forum helped me a lot in processing and submitting my first batch of images. Fair comment Ian
  4. I do subsscribe Martin The last email from them was from <<no-reply@apptitudemedia.co.uk>> on August 13 butt looks like Apptitude Media is the company that publish iPad and iPhone versions http://www.apptitudemedia.co.uk/ I had a june 2014 issue to hand and the editorial page seems to confirm Apptitude Media for the print version I hope that's some help Regards John Thanks John, Dovetail and Incisive seem to be subscription services but not the one you get to from BJP web site. The letter did not mention Apptitude. From the BJP web site Apptitude seem to be BJP

  6. Thanks Wim It doesn't have to portable - just installed at the second site. I like the sound of the Dell [ and the picture too...] so will have look. One of my early PCs was a Dell 200 [ PC AT copy -it was v good ]! Best Wishes John
  7. Yes Sandisk and Lexar only - not yet had a failure except on a "cheap" CF card when I recovered most files with DataRescue [ Mac ] Main storage Drobo 4 bay backed up to a second Drobo 4 Bay [ 8tb] This thread reminds me I have neglected offsite storage... max card size I have is 32gb and I don't really have enough. I do not reformat until they are imported into Aperture and backed up. Data Rescue 3 by Prosoft may well find most of your files Ian but it takes time...It recovered files form a card I found soaking wet in a car park - all mp3s and no hint of the owner
  8. Thanks for the replies. I use a calibrated iMac27 at base. My budget.... well i can't say I do colour critical work so would prefer something less than £1000. It may be it would be better to buy a second iMac for my purposes. One thing i've noticed when keywording - "how many people" etc in attributes /i have to have the original on screen and not rely on the the Alamy thumbnail. often the Powerbook screedn size not quite up to it. i will look at your budget options geoff and thanks.
  9. I work in more than one site but my Mac Book Pro 13 in is not the best for checking images out so I'm thinking seriously of an external display but what to chose ? At Base I have an iMac 27 which I find perfect for me but.... Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks John
  10. I'm not a chatty type either, but I find that the "Chat Now" tab only shows up on Alamy search result pages, not on pages with data. Haven't seen it get in the way of any data yet. I assume that the box is there for potential buyers who want to discuss prices, etc. I'm using Firefox BTW. You are right, and I use Firefox too
  11. This may be just my screen but I seem to see some fringing that would make me hesitate [ Iv'e just had a SoLD ] btw so am twitchy]
  12. Great photographs Julian. Thanks for showing them to us. Love the Loire btw with particular reference to the wines of Chinon & Bourgeuil Best Wishes John
  13. Congrats David and no monkeying around with the image either..... It encourages me to keep going too !
  14. images from the G9 on Alamy Linda?
  15. i have the Samyang 8 mm fisheye for MFT - pretty well made and I bought it on a bit of whim. I don't use it much mainly because it's tricky to use this focal length but more because I have moved to Fujifilm for all but "action" & wildlife. I think i'll dust it off and have another play.
  16. Doug Having just failed QC on a SOLD [and they were right btw..] I am inclined to be even more cautious now. Might have been tempted with your 794 & 785 but I suspected Alamy would have preferred these in their Newsfeed. Managed high iso in itself does not seem to be a big issue in my experience John
  17. I'm sure they are working on an Android version as per James's recent blog. Should there be a "Compactimo" now they are giving them away ? Better images than iPhones.....
  18. If under warranty I would send it back to Canon in the sincere hope you get a better service than certain other manufacturers I could name. If it's not under Warranty get a quote. Sounds FUBAR..... I hope its not beyond economical repair Good luck John
  19. My failures have been identifiable on re-examination : dust spot [ I missed it ] exposure issue [ rather a matter of a opinion ] and this one DAMWKP "jpeg artefact" - I never did identify it but resubmitted later exported direct from Aperture rather than Photoshop. I think it may have referred to some spilt paint on the decking. I think we just have to take failures on the chin and press on John
  20. Well, I'm just about to submit some with a sea mist. I had exactly the same thoughts but I rather like them [mistake...] so will take the chance.... It's not paranoia it's vacillation but I have now decided. Watch this space!. John
  21. I think its time will come I understand Sony is looking its own proprietry light field tech [fancy that - Sony looking at proprietry tech ]
  22. I first noticed this problem with purple taking pics of crocuses with a Nikon D200. I too think it's probably a sensor issue. As you have proved, Fuji's sensor is different. It may well be the same with many Bayer type sensors [ and Sony is the biggest manufacturer] although this is pure conjecture on my part. I have moved to Fuji for most of my general stuff now and am very pleased although they have a way to go in auto focus and a comprehensive flash system [esp. FP flash] so I would not be getting rid of my Nikon stuff for the foreseeable future but neither am I going to expand my syste
  23. The "default" for the Panasonic MFT bodies I've had is the mechanical shutter being open so it has to close before openinig again for the image, hence the clatter. I have now been close to actually having to read the manual but had missed the option for mechanical shutter being greyed out when in "silent mode" so am now reverting to the mechanical shutter in the hopes that all will be well. If not I'll report back !
